Rysheed Jordan

I don't think the roster is comPlete yet.... We are involved 2013 impact big man.... Either IMHO
Gift goes or Marco goes to play overseas

I would be equally unshocked by three guys leaving or no one leaving.

Does GG give us more than Chris Jones after Frosh to soph maturation and Euro tour?
Why almost no discussion of Obekpa, Sampson, Balamou possible improvement?
CRG, what is Lavin history on player development, particularly bigs?

If I recall correctly, I believe that was one of the knocks on Lavin at UCLA. I cant remember the exact quote , but I think Hassan Adams (zona) wasa recruited by UCLA as well and mentioned that players dont get better at UCLA and thats a reason why he didnt commit there. He sure can recruit htough.

I just found the article below which may help to answer your question. It looks to me like these guys improved under Lavin. What's also mentioned a time or two again are the injuries to some key players. That certainly seems to have impacted to some extent his time at UCLA.

I expect all three to improve a lot by the end of next season. Obekpa really came a long way this season with his rebounding and defensive positioning. He can only get better with added strength and skill. Sampson will continue to get better as long as he plays within his game next season. I hope he doesn't expect to morph into a true SF in one summer. He needs to play inside-out...dominate at the rim and go from there. Balamou is one of the best athletes in the country. He might be able to be the best defender in the league by as early as the end of next year, but finding minutes with this group might be difficult. I love this kid's potential....rebounding, defense, blocking shots, athleticism, and I think he will give a lot more offense than most think he is capable.

I'd like to see more offensive boards from Sampson next year. Would also like to see Jakarr score down low, along with his short jumpers.

I agree I would also like to see him step back behind the three point line too...If he wants to go pro after next year he will have to be able to step back.

For crying out loud. Gift put up 10 pts and 6 boards a game for a full season. He scored 20 or more 3 times, 15 or more 9 times, pulled down 8 or more boards 10 times. He led the team in FG%, and that % would have led THIS year's team as well. He put up 18 pts and 12 boards against a National Champion Kentucky team, 21/7 against a solid Marquette team. Will he give us more than Christian Jones? Are you folks KIDDING????

As for Player development: Frosh #s: Player A: 5.8 pts, 3.7 assts. Player B: 8.6 pts 5.7 rebs. Player C: 3.9 pts, 2.2 rebs, 0.8 asst. Player D 10.5 pts, 4.5 rebs, 1.8 asst. Player E: 9.2 pts, 4.2 rebs. Player F: 10.2 pts 5.1 rebs. Player G: 2.8 pts, 0.9 rebs

Later years - did they develop?: Player A: 14.7 pts, 5.7 assts, Earl Watson. Player B: 12 pts 9 rebs, Dan Gadzuric. Player C: 14.2 pts, 7.3 rebs, 3.2 asst, Matt Barnes. Player D 17.9 pts, 5.9 rebs, 4.8 assts, Toby Bailey. Player E: 19.0 pts, 7.8 rebs, JR Henderson. Player F: 13.0 pts, 7.6 rebs, Lottery Pick Jerome Moiso. ALL of these players reached the NBA. Player G: 14.1 pts, 4.6 rebs, Billy Knight.

As for developing bigs - all I can tell you is that he coached NBA centers Jelani McCoy, JR Henderson, Dan Gadzuric, Jerome Moiso, and Ryan Hollins, and NBDL Center Mike Fey; NBA Forwards Matt Barnes, Jason Kapono, Charles O'Bannon, and Dijon Thompson, and NBDL forwards JaRon Rush, TJ Cummings and Andre Patterson. 5 NBA Centers, 4 NBA forwards, 1 NBDL Center and 3 NBDL forwards - 13 bigs to the NBA/NBDL in 7 years

While not bigs, he also coached NBA guards Toby Bailey, Baron Davis, Earl Watson, and Cedric Bozeman, and NBDL Guards Billy Knight, Ray Young, Brian Morrison, and Kevin Daley.

That's a total 21 players (13 NBA plalyers, 8 NBDL) in 7 seasons at UCLA. Player development, or just some freakish string of good luck (as it is ascribed by UCLA "fans")? I personally think SOMETHING has to have been going on development wise. :)

A most persuasive argument.

Thanks for putting GG in perspective as well.

People forget too easily, Gift put up good numbers his first year here and he'll definatly be a huge asset to the team next year. I'd rather have Gift then Marco . 18 points and 12 rebounds against Kentucky last year was phenominal ! He'll be better this year with a better team around him.

Don't. Think we should get to down on Marco Still feel there is some in him that yet needs to come out

Most JUCOs play much better in their second year like Hardy and Brownlee most recently.

Im sure Samuels is happy he wont be seeing Rysheed much in the future!

#20 of final Rivals list.

“@Corey_Rivals513: Final rankings for the class of 2013. Here's the newest Rivals150 -http://ow.ly/k57A7 #BBN”

It's good to see Jordan as a 5-star player, per ESPN and, now, Rivals. They probably are the two best recruiting services in the ranks. I'm curious to see where Jordan will be once Scout update their rankings.
