Rysheed Jordan - Stay or Go?

I think it is in Jordan's best interest to stay, and that's not a biased opinion that's looking at the draft board and looking at the coach we have coming in right now.

Rysheed wants to take care of his family, it's honorable, we all understand it, that means he should make sure he has guaranteed money coming by getting drafted. Mullin is his best chance with his connections and knowledge of how prospects are evaluated in pre draft workouts.

With that being said, sheed might hate going to school and doing schoolwork, and leave anyway. I hope we have him back

In the coming weeks, we will find out about Sampson, Obekpa, Jordan & maybe a kid or two who wants to leave. Then we will get a better sense of transfers, new recruits & a projected roster. I am so excited about our future prospects under Mullin that I'm not losing sleep over a potentially mediocre team next year & anything above that is gravy. Program stability & prosperity, with a few bumps in the road, may be right around the corner.

Incredibly well said. I don't think we should get too tied up in next season's results. With where we've been, and most importantly largely haven't been, the last 20 years or so, the Mullin move should be about where we are going to be the next 20 years, not the next one. Especially because next year is unlikely to be special - but maybe 3 years from now could be. Let's start focusing on the latter objective right away.

Want to be as good as we can next year. But am not interested in making near term moves that potentially improve next season, but also potentially set the macro rebuild back even further. That includes returning players. If anyone is not 100% on board with where Mullin wants to go, would rather not have them and be worse next year in the name of expediting the rebuild. Am absolutely, completely prepared to deal with a single-digit win season (although I don't think that's likely) if that's what is best to get on Mullin's desired path for the program.
Spot on post 15. It is all about building & stabilizing a program, not next season.

No one is talking about sacrificing the future based on next season. A program is built one brick at a time, and getting off on a nice note (maybe 17 wins and the NIT) is an important building block for the next group of kids Mullin will recruit. It's not like the pros where you can dump salary in order to open up cap space and in doing so sacrifice the present for the future. Can you explain what near term moves would damage us in the future - I'm probably missing what you are thinking. Thanks.
You having a bad day Beast. :) I'll let 15 answer for himself, but I for one hope we do well to NIT level you describe, but prepared for less possibly. My focus is on subsequent years & doing things in a systematic fashion to achieve stability, success & avoidance of last minute quick fixes. (which often are counter productive) I have great confidence Mullin & staff will build a program that can be successful & sustainable.
Cant argue w that logic. That was Lavins biggest problem. Roster and scholi distribution. He was always scrambling last minute .IE. 2015 roster and 2014 last minute scramble resulting in him taking chances and 2 important recruits ineligible.

Funny after spending 2 years with us, I still feel like he hasn't unpacked his bags. I think a lot of us expect him to leave in the car with the engine already warmed up. I hope he stays.

Fwiw somebody said Jordan was at the press conference Wednesday, it turns out that was actually not true.

But good news is it seems like obekpa will be back. So that could make him want to stay

I don't want to read too much into that but can't help but think it's encouraging!

And to me this is the ultimate key for next season. Diallo, Sampson etc. are all great but this is the #1 guy I want on the roster next year. He will be BE player of the year hands down

Jordan is the key to this team's prospects next year. Even if Diallo materializes, freshmen always have a steep learning curve, especially big men. Jordan comes back, we can be decent.

Barring any walkabouts, he could very easily turn himself into an all-league performer and draft pick next year.

After that tweet he also posted a video clip of his red storm report episode so it seems he's staying!

Say what? Where did you hear that

Probably talking about his instagram post last night. it's around here somewhere.

It's more than encouraging. The kid needs some stability on the court and off. His m.o. has been as a head-case, and no matter how talented he is, he needs to show out more as a PG and also show improved handle and ability to show maturity. He needs a year where he's mature enough to access the media and prove he can handle rigors of not only basketball but acting professionally. Right now he is running home every break, but if he goes pro, he might rarely be home and fighting for roster spots for years.

That said, bring him back, Sampson, Damien Lee, Darien williams, Diallo, Obekpa and we have a killer roster already. I actually don't think thwt scenario is far off. We could be beastly with a quick rebuild.

I've been a big critic of Sheed but towards the end of the year he came to play and was bringing it.

If he can just ignore his buddies and focus on himself on the court in Queens he can be POY and a 1st round pick easy.

I'm interested to see how well he would do being the "man" for us next year should he come back. I'd like to think he could have a Kris Dunn type year and get into the late first round.

I don't know why everyone is willing to completely forget about the rest of our roster. Most of the time they had been disappointing, but with Mullin teaching them, maybe they could surprise us. Amar did show signs of talent at some points last year, and Christain Jones has always had the athleticism. De La Rosa (the younger one) could have been a contributor last year had he been eligible. His biggest issue would have been conditioning, and with Mullin saying that that won't be a problem with this team, he could easily provide some quality minutes.

I think we all believe Mullin will be a coaching upgrade. But you can't expect him to be Anne Sullivan.

From what I saw of ADR, in shape and eligible he is a problem to defend and someone who shapes the floor o make the offense work.
