Rutgers, Thur., Nov. 19, 7PM, FS1 & WMCA 570 AM

Just finished watching this. I don 't care if it was pretty or not, to be down 16 in the second half and come back like that is freakin' fantastic for such a young group. Love this team!!

@NYPost_Brazille: Don't thin I've heard Carnsecca Arena that loud in a long time. #sjubb
Was that tweet from Braziller or Ricky Ricardo? :) (I Love Lucy reference for the uninitiated).

Sima had 13 pts, 9 Reb, 6 Blocks 3 Ast. Nice all around game but most impressive was that he played hard and only picked up 3 fouls in 39 MINUTES. And he wasn't taking plays off. For a freshman to play that many minutes and stay out of foul trouble shows really great discipline and defensive instincts. We've got ourselves a player there.

Sima is better now than Obekpa would have been this season. Very impressed with him
And when he blocks a shot it almost always stays in bounds and we have great chance to come up with the ball as opposed to swatting it up into the stands.

great point

I haven't been this pumped up leaving CA in ages. I don't know how they won but somehow they did. Nobody really played that great and I thought we were outplayed but voila a W.
Agree, under no illusions of grandeur but walked out very happy and overall enjoyed the win as no matter how you play a comeback win especially down by 16 in the second half is sweet.

Don't forget the fact that we made this comeback despite two key cogs being out with injuries. That can only help the character of this team going forward.

Agree with everything that was written about the crowd. In the ticket office, they've been telling me that since the announcement of Mullin, things have been hopping from day 1 and didn't stop. I was skeptical that students would actually show up - for years they had to be convinced the team was NCAA bound to show any interest. The student section last night wasn't packed to the gills, but man, were they loud and engaged all game - even when we were down. No question the students ignited the crowd and the team never acted like they were down for the count because of that. Will it be long before there are more students than actual seats in those sections. In the old days, people would be sitting in the aisles - def fire code violation - and in student sections there were 5 fans for every 4 bleacher seats.

Have we ever had a team with so many hard to pronounce names?

The season is turning out to have a storybook beginning. A storybook ending is so highly improbable that fans have taken these early games very seriously - and frankly they've been fun to watch. To begin by getting blasted by a D2 squad in an exhibition, already rock bottom low expectations were reset even lower. Then to rip off three straight wins in D1 - just amazing.

Mullin owns this gym, and at this point is a little bit Teflon. But he is growing into the game coach role so quickly, it's been great to witness. My seats are directly opposite the bench, so I've watched every second of that growth. Against Wagner, he had a hard time getting a player's attention during play on the court. Against UMBC there was a big improvement, especially with Mussini. Last night, it was hard to keep Mullin off the court (he got several warnings for straying too far off the bench, and even with the loud crowd, you could often hear Mullins shouts across the court. It still takes too long for the team to have his full attention during a timeout, but I'm sure that will improve also.

Carnesecca has also been animated during the entire games. I could see his arms flailing pointing during the court during play as he chatted with those with him. I'm pretty certain Mullin is conferring with him between games, and getting good advice.

Mussini is finding that D1 players are big, and athletic, and it's only going to get rougher. Already he is looking steadier with ball in hand, but he's got to be more careful with the ball, telegraphing several soft passes last night that were swiped. He's also gotten a few shots blocked, not only close to the rim, but on his jumper. I'm confident he will make the proper adjustments, as he is a true jump shooter with a quick release. This scrappy little kid actually grabbed 7 rebounds, 2 offensive. He turned a horrible shooting night (3-14) into 13 mostly later second half points.

Durand Johnson was horrible last night. The positive from that is that it appears he can play much better. We'll see.

Amar finally nailed a three, in the first half. It would be nice to see him get untracked soon and have a game with 3 or more threes. One thing he is right now though is a phenomenal teammate. He's one of the first off the bench rooting during a timeout, and after the win, was so excited wagging a #1 finger, you'd thought we'd just won the Big East.

Sima right now is a big time presence around the hoop. I suspect when the going gets tougher he won't be as effective initially. Even with 6 blocks, he's not block crazy like Obekpa, who was often so far out of position when attempting a block that if he missed, a putback layup was likely. Sima has great poise for a frosh, but you guys have said all that.

Ron M. put in a nice night's work. 12 points, 10 rebounds. Mvouika is too hard to pronounce and type. Too bad the nickname RonRon is already taken. Can you believe we outrebounded Rutgers 45-33? Thank you Felix.

Felix? When was the last time anyone crowed about a 4-12, 0-3 FT performance? Well, when you toss in 11 rebounds and 7 assists, you do. I don't like his game overall, but it's just so damned disruptive. He always seems to be around the ball, can take it to the hoop, and fights like hell for rebounds.

13-24 FT line? Mullin was always in the gym. I suspect these guys will be putting on overtime working from the line. Felix shot two lines drive bricks, and down the stretch we were brutal.

Can someone tell Christian Jones (so far my favorite because he has a pronounceable name) that he is actually a pretty good player? He had a couple of really nice drives to the hoop, but 2 rebounds from that body?

Best crowd in years at CA on a rainy night. Wasn't a full house, but reminded me of the old days vs. Syracuse. Fans actually on their feet A LOT, and loud.

Thanks for the informative post. If our shooting was better last night we could have won by 15 even though other aspects of our game was not good, But out rebounding them was a pleasant surprise Foul line shooting was disappointing Mussini is doing a good job for bring out of position I said if Lovett was eligible he could have big numbers some night ,Players would get easier shots and looks at the basket
Its like the guy who jumped out of the 20 story window on his way down said so far so good. Can see the team coming together . I just hope everyone does not go negative when the competition get tough. The team is putting out and they do not give up

As Paultzman correctly said the other day lets just win the games we can and hopefully stay competitive in the games we are outmatched.
So far so good and I am thrilled the fans are getting to watch exciting ball and enjoying the atmosphere at CA.
Stick to Paultzman's philosophy and we will be happy.

WOW, first of Felix made up for his missed FT's by committing a foul and not getting called for it.

Next, I don't know why the announcers were killing Jones for going for the lay up. There was a guy right behind him he was going to get fouled anyway for for the lay.

That being said 3-0 baby!

Great point on the Jones play

Not really. If he pulls it out and looks for some open space he's going to burn some of that 6.5 seconds and also still get fouled and shoot two. Then Rutgers only has say 3 seconds and its a much different situation.

Assuming that Jones, in the heat of the moment, in a role he doesn't do - handling the ball and the related decision making, and until ing a skill he doesn't appear to have - the same ball handling, I think he made the right play. I didn't at the time but I do now. A turnover could have been worse, leading to a break the other way in the helter skelter..

Great confidence boost last night. Way to stick with it! Happy to steal that win. For some odd reason, Christian Jones reminded me of Anthony Glover. Anybody else see that?

You are right Beast, I look at the kid C. Jones and if does not have an NBA body I don't know who does! Him and Balamou were in Lavin's dog house for what ever reason and I am glad both are now contributing big time!

Loved Felix's and Sima's play last night.

I would love to have Freeman on my team.

Gotta hit our FT's.

Gutty performance at a loud Gym for a change.

Lavin was fine.

The non-calls on the bump and the trip helped us enormously, and give Jordan credit for saying we "out-hearted" them.

On to Vandy, the Harvard of the South!
