Rutgers Exhibition

Without thinking I would say that a great 3 point shooter would hit 45%. There aren't too many of those so 37% = 55.5% from 2 (with less ft opportunities). Definitely good enough to be called good. (How's that for a limited vocabulary assessment)

Funky left handed release though, no?
It’s all semantics Beast but id say 45% with solid amount of attempts is better than great and close to elite. I’d say 40% or better from 3 is great.

I don’t see Daniss having any problems with Posh or small guards. He is solid. He had one take away after being the sole ball handler for 43 minutes under constant pressure. He needs a guy to relieve him at times but don’t lose sleep over his handle. And guess how many lay ups he had blocked at the rim…..none. How refreshing!
Don’t underestimate Cruz Davis at Pg when he’s healthy. Kid is a good player and will offer another option at Pg to add depth and ability.

Depth is so important.
Not only per game but it's a 30+ game season and add-on injuries
and disappointments, magnify its importance.

Digging deep in the bench and giving up very little is big. Sometimes vital.
True. That was the problem Lavin last year. A good starting rotation, but no depth. I think the scenario you laid out is what happened to DLo. Had to play to many minutes per game and while injured, no sufficient backup.

Daniss had 4 turnovers and had his pocket picked twice according to the stats I was following. I only saw one steal against him from the highlights, but it was very clean.

Daniss has a good but not great handle to me. He also lacks the strength to keep guys on his hip like say Mark Jackson did in the NBA for years.

Dingle has the better handle and probably is strong enough to keep guys away in pressure situations.

I wouldn’t say it’s a glaring weakness, but it’s something to be aware of.

My only excuse for Daniss and the turnovers was he played 46 minutes...in an exhibition. 2 of those 4 turnovers; 1 came with 3:48 left in the 2nd half and 1 with 1:34 left in the 1st OT. Can't over estimate fatigue.

You are correct. He was visibly tired at the end of the game and was subjected to double teaming in that stretch. Dingle would have gotten major minutes and Daniss would have been fresh in the closing minutes.

Pitino, during the post game presser that he probably played Daniss too many minutes but he was kind of forced to because of injuries.

I would guess if the top of my head that most players similar to Luis last year as a freshman become star-quality players.

I heard from St. John's this a.m. regarding the lack of a tv broadcast of Saturday's (terrific) exhibition between SJU and Rutgers.

I do think that most of you unable to attend were not too upset about it but the athletic department wanted it clarified here and on X.

Their response:

Will you please tell your friends the following about the exhibition game and streaming it:

As you know there was no stream. Here’s why. This was originally scheduled as a closed scrimmage with no coverage allowed. Both coaches wanted to keep that principle for privacy purposes of the game and simply focus on raising money for pediatric cancer research. Obviously we got a great game too! Hope that helps explain as it had nothing to do with saving money and in fact we had MSG Network lined up to help if the coaches of both programs wanted coverage.

My take, and Kranmars knows how I feel. :)

We definitely have the most responsive and likely most capable AD in my nearly 50 years of association with St. John's. At the very least he approaches the venerable late Coach Kaiser. He is visible and present, and responds to the smallest requests from fans and alums. Yes, we are all passionate about our men's basketball team, and sometimes we get carried away with rants - sometimes justified, sometimes without basis. But it's nice that the AD cares enough to respond to rants with intelligent reasoned information.

Now let's have a great season, fill our home court arenas, and see March basketball!
You misspelled April Basketball

Last year in the NCAA game versus Uconn, Daniss played 34 minutes and had 5 A's and NO T/O's along with 4 steals so maybe the T/O #'s versus Rutgers were not typical of what we can expect

Marillac’s initial point was vs small guards who can get underneath him. Uconn didn’t have those guys.

Be advised, do not let your “guard” down around them.
Every time I hear Uconn mentioned I get mildly miffed . They are turncoats of the Caliber of Benedict Arnold and even , recently were again openly soliciting moving to another Conference .

The reasons are unimportant , other than their Greed. Why they are permitted to play unimpeded in our Conference is beyond me . They should be suspended from playing in the BE Tournament as they habitually look to exit the Conference .
