Rutgers Exhibition

Having Dingle should help there, but we don’t have a kid on the roster under 6’3 so that is something to be aware of in the waning minutes of games. A pesky smaller guard will get lower and go for the ball.
Definitely something that fuels upsets in March. We'll have to make sure we are up double digits in each of our six tournament games.

Daniss had his pocket picked once late in regulation time. At that point he looked exhausted. Had played virtually every minute as the playmaking pg and lead press on defense.
Pitino even mentioned that in his postgame presser. Felt Wilcher wasn't ready yet for close and late, and Dingle obviously was not available. Said Jenkins handled it too much.

Actually, we looked like the more tired team at the end of regulation, and overtime. Fortunately, that tying three pointer seemed to wake us back up.

Good morning Recap of the Rutgers scrimmage. Excuse my voice, I tried to get it back to normal with tea and water but even though I recorded about 4 hours after the game ended my voice was still shot from yelling. Also the original plan was to have someone on with me but scheduling didn’t work out so apologize it’s just me.

There population of iowa city is 75000.

Apples and oranges, the game was played outdoors in the Iowa football stadium so there was the novelty of that unique experience. Iowa obviously also has a deservedly acclaimed iconic player in Caitlin Clark. Further, sports in Iowa are essentially college only and the game was played on a Sunday, no college football and pro football just is not popular enough to keep people glued to their TV sets. And by the way televised on BTN which in no way held the crowd down.

Very true. Here’s another novelty apples and oranges comparison. Almost 93,000 in a football stadium for volleyball.

Is it too early to hope for a Marcellus earlington type development for Drissa? He’s going to play this year especially against more physical teams. Impressed by him yesterday
I was impressed by Drissa staying and Pitino encouraging him to stay and just have a feeling he's going to be a regular end of the bench contributor this year and a much more significant one next year.

My takeaways:

-Jenkins is a true floor general, single handedly controlled the first half on his own. The star.

-Wilcher and Brady are both freshmen that will grow and excite but they’re every bit of 18.

-Ledlum will be treasured in the BE, has conference weight and strength.

-Soriano consistent, shooting struggled. Taylor and Alleyne great role players when Luis and Dingle get into the fold.

-Most pleasing aspect is the accountability, structure and discipline that will only sharpen over time. Pitino is unreal in his in game instruction and demands.

-4500 announced by Carino, I thought I was being generous estimating 3800, nevertheless going to bask in the big crowds on a nightly basis, nervous going into Michigan but they will be ready.

I don’t know. Showing the resilience to not let blowing a 20-point lead discourage them and then tying the game at the end of regulation and then coming back in the first OT are all great signs for a team with a lot of new parts.

Post-game thread the next morning also never disappoints lol. Thanks. 😂

Alleyne isn't getting enough buzz IMO. He may end being our best player by years end.

All excuses for a crappy fan base. I think of it this way, if 98 year old Coach Carnesecca shows up, which he now does only 2 or 3 times a season, it's a big deal. If you are within 75 miles of the game instead of complaining that its not on tv, if you care enough, pay TEN BUCKS and usher in the Pitino era by showing up.

What is apples and oranges is there is enough interest in Iowa in a woman's exhibition game to sell 56000 tickets AND have it on TV. Why on earth would a sponsor pay for ad time for an sju mens game when only 3000 fans bother to show up for a charity game? Sju doesn't have its own sports network. Instead of blaming Cragg why not call Fox Sports and express your dissatisfaction. All proceeds went to pediatric cancer research so sju already underwrote the cost of security, cleaning, ushers, etc. You can still make a donation if you wish.

As far as our remote or handicapped fans, I wish the game was televised. For local fans, for decades local teams blacked out local telecasts and the Mets and Yankees are mostly subscription based. Maybe we should do that too.

Judging from the accounts posted , it seemed to me that a few key points were :

1. Taylor is a much better player than the reports indicated over the summer . Offensively and defensively .

2. Alleyne is a sniper and can make the clutch shot .

3. Ledlum is Ledlum , as advertised .

4. Jenkins needs to get some help at PG . Wore down by playing too many minutes .

5. Joel is Joel . Which is a good thing .

Zuby, Traore capable of giving quality minutes . Zuby needs to learn not to foul as much . Otherwise he will see only limited minutes due to foul trouble .
6. Dunlop and Wilcher will be very good players but , until RP feels they are ready for Prime time , they will sit and learn from the bench .

7. While the Game was called a scrimmage and exhibition with Rutgers , it appeared to be played like a real game for both teams .

8. Not 1 poster received admonishment from Kranmars . I hope he noticed my use of a full. colon as I listed the summary ?

9. Pace game will be more like a exhibition / Scrimmage .

10. Bummer that Dingle , Luis and Davis missed with injuries . Speedy return for all .

Daniss had his pocket picked once late in regulation time. At that point he looked exhausted. Had played virtually every minute as the playmaking pg and lead press on defense. After he lost that ball, Coach pulled him and gave him a short— very short— rest. Daniss came back in, tightened his handle and ran the offense flawlessly. He is very cool and plays high speed but under control. We do need to find a back up pg to rest him. Wilcher not ready. Hopefully Jordan can fill that role.
I led at the 5:45 mark of the second half during the timeout as I had another commitment (my wife, daughter and I had tickets for Hamilton and had plans for either dinner or drinks before the show).

I read another post saying Daniss has his pocket picked several times and might have problems against guards like Posh. Having missed the end of regulation and the OTs, I have no comment on hat portion but I only recall him getting stripped once. They pressured, double teamed, and hedged against him the entire game and I thought he looked good. I think he did tire late and the offense struggled in the second half bit overall, he will be more than fine. Shooting wise, he had about three heaves all in the second half from the three to avoid a shot clock violation and there was another turnover when he and Brady where not on the same page and the ball went out of bounds. Rutgers used a Nolan Richardson strategy on Daniss (“Cut off the head and the rest of the body will die” was the strategy he used against us and David Cain in the Tourney).

I think Alleyne was 0-4 on 3 pointers before he hit his first one (a nice fluid looking step back) and then missed his next two by my count before I left.

Wilcher played with Daniss at the same time most of the time he was on the court with Daniss running the show before Wilcher got his chance.

Taylor’s handle surprised me. There were several times I thought he would get stripped and he didn’. Helped set up his teammates.

As I mentioned in a post after watching practice a week ago, Drissa is much improved. Played both the 4 and 5 yesterday.

Ayo hit his first shot but missed the rest.
