You know he'll have more tweets on us today, then the president of the U.S.A. will about the news media. So, let's try to keep it all in one thread.

@JonRothstein
Greetings from Jamaica. Here for St. John's practice. Year Four of the Chris Mullin era. #SJUBB

Two things that immediately jump out at St. John's? 1. Justin Simon is noticeably better shooting the ball 2. Marvin Clark is considerably leaner
#SJUBB
South Carolina transfer Sedee Keita shining here at St. John's with his ability to switch defensively. HAS to stay out of foul trouble. Should be an 8 and 8 guy. #SJUBB

Palpable Buzz at St. John's regarding JUCO import LJ Figueroa. Always seems to be around the ball. Should average in double-figures. #SJUBB
Quinnipiac transfer Mikey Dixon could fill the same role for St. John's that Remy Martin filled for Arizona State last season. Averaged 15.6 PPG two years ago. Potential spark off bench. #SJUBB

Early prediction on St. John's starting five without Mustapha Heron: Justin Simon, Shamorie Ponds, LJ Figueroa, Marvin Clark, Sedee Keita. #SJUBB

Not exactly going out on a limb there. That's what most of us have though. If Heron makes it, put him in over Figueroa.

As I've said all off-season, either way, it will be nice that Chris finally has options when he goes to the bench this year. You never know what might happen, and depth is something we really haven't had since Lavin's first team.

And I'm not surprised to see 'spec' that Figueroa would be in the 'starting' 5 with Heron. Heron, Ponds, Simon, Figueroa, Clark, with Keita, Dixon off the bench and getting good PT, plus GW on D, fits CM's style of play.
Should be great fun to watch.

You get the feeling that Chris Mullin loves freshman Greg Williams on defense. Could fill a specialist type role early. Think Dominique Hawkins for UK in 13-14. #SJUBB

@JonRothstein
Biggest keys for St. John's: 1. Keeping Sedee Keita out of foul trouble 2. Execution in tight end of game situations 3. Overcoming a subpar non-league slate #SJUBB

i don't know. john Rothstein hypes always has something positive to say I always takes his tweets with a grain of salt.

He's watching solid/good/great athletes and skilled hoops players 'practice'.
Time to 'relax', 'dream' and fuhgeddaboud da 'noise'.

Rothstein does tend to stress the positive but he is also acknowledged as one of the better college bb reporters. If he is correct that Keita produces an eight and eight season and Figgy averages double figures SJU will contend for a top three big east finish.

Provided the chefs can prepare the meal, ingredients there with Heron for sure.

Exactly my view, Mike, If Heron plays, few teams will be able to stay with us.
Let’s focus on the season, take the nearest ‘hill’ first, and see what happens.
If Mullin can be said to have a court ‘vision’—that’s it: run ‘n gun and in-your-face D.
And he has the players to do that with in 2018-19.
Should be great fun to watch.

Provided the chefs can prepare the meal, ingredients there with Heron for sure.[/quote] that’s the great thing about this year. All the ingredients are there. If they aren’t chefs this year than they will never be chefs but even pessimistic me thinks we are gonna wreck people. My 22 win prediction was. My pessimist side. I’m more in line with Olv72 and 24 wins #noexcuses

Is that 24 wins before the BET?
That’s my ‘base case’ as well.

You guys are getting me a little too excited about this season. Been a long time since I've heard these kinds of predictions.

It’s been an equally long time for the rest of us as well, firestorm!
Let the games begin!

Nice words from Rothstein, but hard to take too much away from a practice. Not unlike covering a training camp in the NFL. I do think we will have all the ingredients to be a very good team, however as others have said, I'm concerned we may not have the chefs. There's no doubt that even without Heron we should stomp through our OOC except for Duke and eke out wins over Cal, Temple, Georgia Tech, etc. The real grind is the conference season. Even in a year where it really is up for grabs and we are as talented as Nova on paper with Heron, every game will be very difficult to win. Remember when we were terrible in Mullin's first year? We lost a lot but we also won against a few Big East teams and kept several of them close even against good teams. The conference has a way of keeping things competitive...rarely do you see a game decided by more than 10 points in conference. So I think it's silly to expect us to win by 20 every night unless it's Marquette, PC, or Nova. It's always a very tough challenge even against DePaul. We will have to know how to close out tight games, because almost every one will be a nail biter in conference.
