RJ Luis

The movie Rounders had a quote from a Doyle Brunson book that is so, so true. “Every gambler wins their big pots, but can remember every little detail of a bad beat.” I’m paraphrasing but such an accurate statement.
"Few players recall big pots they have won, strange as it seems, but every player can remember with remarkable accuracy the outstanding tough beats of his career."

This is the actual quote, I can’t edit that post and it was really bugging me lol. It’s a book by Jack King, not Doyle Brunson, too.

If RJ is ever back on campus -- and hope he will be -- I would love to see our students be supportive of him, given what he's been through, and especially given how he always acknowledged his appreciation of his teammates, and equally important, our fan base. Would really to see a repeat of how our fans boistrously and generously cheered for Zuby the day after the painful loss to Baylor, when he missed two game-winning FTs. Game was lost, but so much positive came out of it.

Hang in there, RJ. And to the students, show him some love.

Assume he is already back on campus as the semester isn’t over…read somewhere that he has 3.9 index so he is obviously a good student…I know one of his profs who says he is extremely respectful, making it a point to let the prof know that he’ll be missing class due to a road trip…kid is genuine

Plus if nothing else, I have to imagine NIL is tied toward finishing what you started. If it's not, it should be.

Hopefully cooler heads prevail for all parties involved (assuming any of them are hot to begin with).

RJ had an awesome season and always left it on the court! MVP of our dominance of the Big East regular season and conference tournament. He was always very humble in his success, deferring credit to coaches, teammates, family, etc. Just last week, Pitino said that it is not NIL that got us here, but the character and culture setting of players like RJ that got this program back.

Even with the championships and the success and the joy, these types of 3-17 games come with it. They always have and they are an important part of the journey. Honestly, I would say this is where the real coaching begins. These are still college kids...if we have a charmed story and go from victory to victory that's great but you may miss out on some of the laboratory of life. How do pick yourself up at the low points? I have no doubt RJ will come back stronger. He's already battled adversity successfully with his shin splints.

Selfishly, I hope he is back next year but he will speak to people more knowledgeable than me to make the right decision. I wish him all the best wherever his future takes him!

What happened to RJ is disgusting. Idiots think they can do whatever they want because they can hide behind the anonymity of the internet while they destroy innocent people. They are the lowest of the low. John Oliver discussed sports betting on one of his recent HBO shows and what happened to RJ is happening to a lot of athletes.

What is no bull?
NoBull is an athletic brand that’s been popular with the CrossFit crowd for the last 5–10 years. Repole bought the brand a couple of years ago. They don’t offer team gear but are workout focused so like CrossFit gear, training stuff, they sponsored the NFL combine, etc.

Leveraging your own brands are the perfect way to send sponsorship deals to our athletes and get them a national spotlight.

In many states, gamblers can make prop bets on individual college players. For example, this is what DraftKings was promoting before our game:

College Basketball Picks Today: Best Player Prop Bets for Saturday 3/22/25

RJ Luis Jr. 2+ Made Three-Pointers (-135)

Tipping off at 2:40 p.m. ET, No. 2 St. John’s will take on No. 10 Arkansas in the most entertaining coaching matchup of the tournament. Rick Pitino and John Calipari will face off for the 24th time in their collegiate careers, in addition to six times in the NBA, but the first time at their respective new schools.

St. John’s plays a defensive-minded brand of basketball and counts on RJ Luis Jr. to lead the offense. He is averaging 18.5 points per game and is one of the team’s best three-point shooters at 34.3%. Luis averages 1.4 made three-pointers and has made two or more three-pointers in 14 games this season, including a season-high five made perimeter shots in the opening round of the tournament. He has reached this total in seven of his past eight games.

The saying goes that defense wins championships but at a certain point, it will come down to which team can hit shots in this game. Luis will carry the bulk of the responsibility for St. John’s and has shot the ball with impressive confidence of late. Expect the Red Storm to lean on his production heavily and for Luis to connect on a pair of perimeter shots in the second-round matchup.

Don’t know if this is true and even if so take it for whatever you think it’s worth but I was told St J’s was +5 with RJ in the game against Arkansas and -14 when he was out of the game.

Disgusting. RJ is a classy kid who is distraught at the outcome of the game and took responsibility for not playing well. I wonder how these cowardly trolls would feel if this was being directed at them or even worse, their kids. Grow up and understand this is a 20 something year old young man who gave SJU everything. It just didn't turn out right. If he comes back next year, and I sincerely hope he does, I know he will step up and kill it. Keep the trolling to yourselves!!
