From a CMA fan.
Hats off to Rick Pitino who has put together a competitive roster in short order anchored by the big guy Soriano. That said, I was surprised at the retention of Van Macon who was considered the lead recruiter for Mike Anderson and brought in many of the players Pitino said were not up to the standards expected at St Johns.
The roster has been improved and the Johnnies have a good chance of dancing next season. But in defense of the players who were asked to leave, as a group, I just think Pitino just wanted a fresh start with his own players kudos to him for going out and putting together a credible cast of players on paper, however a cynic might say that public statements like those made about the character of the players pushed by out Pitino supported the narrative of a lack of institutional control by Coach Anderson which is really hard to believe.
I have learned to like the Johnnies during the CMA era and I continue to wish you guys well, the administration not so much. There is an Arkansas connection on the Johnnies current staff. Jeff Martin was the younger brother of Wayne Martin, my classmate, who was an all-pro defensive who was inducted into the New Orleans Saints hall of fame.
