Rick Pitino - Head Coach at St John’s University!!!

I've done my fair share of complaining over the years. I've also made predictions that were off. One notable wrong prediction was that Wheeler would do little or nothing here. I was glad to admit that I was wrong. What I don't get are the incessantly negative posters who run and hide when things don't turn out how they predicted. Only to then reappear when things aren't going well .

Hats off to Rick Pitino who has put together a competitive roster in short order anchored by the big guy Soriano. That said, I was surprised at the retention of Van Macon who was considered the lead recruiter for Mike Anderson and brought in many of the players Pitino said were not up to the standards expected at St Johns.

The roster has been improved and the Johnnies have a good chance of dancing next season. But in defense of the players who were asked to leave, as a group, I just think Pitino just wanted a fresh start with his own players kudos to him for going out and putting together a credible cast of players on paper, however a cynic might say that public statements like those made about the character of the players pushed by out Pitino supported the narrative of a lack of institutional control by Coach Anderson which is really hard to believe.

I have learned to like the Johnnies during the CMA era and I continue to wish you guys well, the administration not so much. There is an Arkansas connection on the Johnnies current staff. Jeff Martin was the younger brother of Wayne Martin, my classmate, who was an all-pro defensive who was inducted into the New Orleans Saints hall of fame.

Van Macon is a local guy who did his job recruiting some very good players. You should not be surprised at his retention.

Once here, the players have to accept the roles assigned by the head coach. In year four it appeared as if was no longer the case and there were issues with the behavior of certain players. A common theme on this forum was how it appeared CMA had lost control of his team. Obviously it had some legs because of the accusation of "lack of institutional control.

I think CMA will get what he is due but the extension the year before is an embarrassment to the athletic department and the A.D.

This is old news and happy to move on but it wasn’t the extension that was inexplicable, it was the lack of a reasonable buyout.

I don't know the contract details but we'll eventually find out and then we can revisit but I agree it old news for now.

Go listen lol

Said we were definitely in his top 25. He didn’t get specific unless I misheard and he said number 25.

Edit
Just re listened. And yes. Right at 25.
Thanks. I listened for over 30 minutes and then got a call and forgot about following up.

Heard from a reliable source that shortly after CRP was hired he offered a certain StJ’s holdover player the opportunity to workout with him early one morning but the player declined saying that he was headed to Atlantic City with his girlfriend. With the workout turndown CRP told the player that it would be best if he went to the transfer portal.

Many of the players from last year's team had the talent to play for Rick, so that is not the reason that they're not here. There were other reasons, most of which we are not privy too. Rick, in conjunction with Van and the rest of the staff, assessed the situation and handled it as they saw fit, and that's good enough for me.

Same story was said about The People's Champ Posh so I'm guessing that's who it was. Never having seen his girlfriend I'll reserve judgment on whether or not it was a wise decision. :ROFLMAO:
