Rick Pitino - Head Coach at St John’s University!!!

Plus I work in medicine and CRP is short for C-Reactive Protein and I can’t get that out of my head. I’m going with RickyP
Or, simply Pitino. Besides, if you go to other teams message boards; many of 'em are using the abbreviation for their respective coach (ie, CHD for Hubert Davis, CEC, Ed Cooley). Kinda cheesy IMO.

Pitino works for me (like Anderson, as I called Mike Anderson, before him).

I will repeat, he should be addressed as Mr. Pitino.
No abbreviations.

Was working on a movie in Edison NJ today and met a young actor on set from Des Moines. Lives on UWS now. Went to U of Iowa as did his entire family. We got to talking college sports and the conversation quickly turned to Rick and SJU. This kid may have been more excited about the Pitino hire then I was. He uttered ever single word I've ever said: basically that he loves college basketball(And football) and would love for NYC to have an exciting SJU team so that he and his buddies could go to MSG and watch exciting college basketball. Said that an exciting SJU is good for the Big East and for college basketball all over the country. I was blown away at how much Big East basketball this kid knew. We talked about Cooley going to GT, etc etc. Anyhow it was great to hear all this from a kid who did not grow up here, but is now on the SJU bandwagon.

The only missing element separating a great from perfect story are paragraphs.

That is a great story. Even without paragraphs! Thanks for sharing it.

Something about posting on a message board, especially when pontificating as I often do, feels like telling a story at a bar. (using a setting Mike Maher is most comfortable in).

When doing so, and you're as excited to tell your story as I was, you barely pause at all.

In other words, just be thankful I even use periods and commas.

PS Glad you still managed to enjoy the story 😉

Double spacing. Show off. 😉

How many years have we posted that winning ball games at SJU would revive fans interest, sell more tickets, improve recruiting and all the other things that go along with a successful program.
While that may be one way of reviving a dead program but there was a much quicker and easier way. Hire a great coach. In one month the SJU program has changed completely because Father Shanley took over the hiring responsibility from the board of trustees and AD.
The results are not unexpected. Just about all the basketball experts predicted what we are seeing. For almost a hundred years SJU hired, other than Lavin assistant coaches or mid major coaches. That worked for many years but as college basketball changed it hasnt worked for thirty years.
I hope Pitino coaches for twenty years and when he leaves SJU doesn’t go back to the board picking his successor.
