I came across the below comment from a Kentucky fan about CRP’s effective teaching skills and thought it deserves repeating>

I can’t stand to say this, but if you gave Rick the resources and kids Cal has had since his time here, he would’ve won 6 or more championships. The man wants to win first and if his guys aren’t doing everything they can to win the actual game they’re playing at the time, they sit on the bench and someone else comes in. He doesn’t care how sitting a kid for playing bad may or may not hurt their draft stock, their feelings or whatever their families may say. He’s made some mistakes in some people’s eyes, but he can teach the game of Basketball. I appreciate all that Cal has done here and it’s not taking away anything from him, the truth is though, he cares more about an individual than Kentucky Basketball as a whole. That’s fine for most everyone, not the Head Coach of Kentucky. Just my opinion here of course. Go Cats.

They are both Snake Oil Salesmen, but Pitino is by far the better coach.

Here is a question…… does anyone else think that Jim Larranaga on the sideline a lot like Jim Boeheim?

here is a clip of Coach Larranaga showing his smooth dance steps.

I swear he also reminds me of his “mentor” and old Coach Jack Curran.

Have never met Larranaga but in intrviews he comes across as very genuine and is obviously an excellent coach.
Larrañaga is older than Pitino and clearly putting to rest the lazy “he’s too old to identify with today’s players”. His players seem to love the guy and it’s working for Miami. The Buck Showalter of the NCAA’s if you will.

Rick Pitino was introduced at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday, since then St. John's has hit the ground running and the buzz around the program is loud. Zach Braziller joins me to talk about the first few days of the Pitino Era.

Great job Dave.

Let me play devil's advocate for a moment; RP coached at Kentucky during a different era in college ball. You could bench a kid back then and not have to worry that the kid would transfer immediately. Coaches do not have the same control now as they did then. Having said that, kids who come to play for Rick know what they're signing up for. In a similar way as kids who signed up to play for Bobby Knight. So I'm confident that he'll also be able to manage the kids in this new era.

Jim Larranaga is in the Elite at at 73 years of age. Pitino is a puppy compared to him.
He’s a terrific coach man. I saw these guys do clinics when I was younger and I was just amazed by their attention to detail and ability to clearly communicate how important seemingly trivial things were to their players.

E.g., I strongly dislike Boeheim, but watching his obsession to detail about trapping the short corner in the 2-3 compared to how others coach it was eye opening. A slight hesitation was completely unacceptable to him and he’d lose his mind. I think that’s why a lot of assistant coaches from legends don’t make it.

Pitino wowed me too. He did a session on pressing based on the speed of the dribble. It was next level and something most coaches don’t even consider.
