Rick Pitino - Head Coach at St John’s University!!!

Well said, as long as the message does not contravene forum rules go ahead and voice your opinion. That is what this board is for.
As for the poster who said " would you tell your Dr what to do " , well you can certainly make suggestions and question what is being said by any professional.
They are not perfect, make mistakes at times and often could have done things better, just like basketball coaches.
Lord knows we dissected every word CMA said as well as those he didn't say.

What else are we supposed to do now, just discuss all of the top talent that the staff has made offers to over the course of the last 48 hours ? :):):)
I would definitely tell my Doctor what to do. OTOH I would never tell my lawyer what to do 😉

I find it odd how we are trying to tell a hall of fame coach how to plan his roster for the upcoming year. I think Pitino has a firm grasp on the type of player he wants both physical attributes and the mental aspect for his type of team that he coaches. I know its just opinions etc and this is a message board to speak our minds, but the way some people are saying he should do this and that is out of our league. I like almost every player that donns the st johns jersey every year but based on this year it doesn't mean they need to be on the team this year if Pitino doesn't think they fit for him. I wish all those players well who leave and will be rooting for the ones that join.

I say let the man do his job and hopefully we wont be criticizing his moves and we will be rejoicing as we only have in such a distant past. But then again, thats my opinion and we all have those lol.

So to each his own.

Lets go johhnies/redmen/redstorm!!

I hope the stress this board is putting on CRP is not causing sleepless nights but every one is entitled to their opinion, and without them messages boards like these would be a graveyard. :ROFLMAO:

That is a wild location, I couldn't believe it. I don't know how anyone graduates from there I would never go inside to class.

Problem is where do you go to drink. Not a real college town feel, kinda isolated up there on the hill as well. There's a few other nice California campuses on or closer to the beach than Pepperdine. UCSD where my daughter went has their own beach behind their their Marine Bio center and Aquarium and the campus is nice if not drop dead gorgeous. UC Santa Cruz is a gorgeous campus with beach access similar to Pepperdine as well, and that includes a full blown amusement park boardwalk. But UCSB is the best as it is both beachfront and has a huge student district with housing, dining options and nightlife in Isla Vista. Of course the UC's are harder to get into than Pepperdine so there's that. ;)

I was being serious. I would think Rick knows his budget for the coming year and has a plan on how to use it. On the other hand, any players he has interest in will have to weigh that salary versus what they think they can get in the open market. Just one more additional wrinkle that didn't use to (according to NCAA bylaws) exist. Of course, depending on how cynically we want to look at it maybe nothing has really changed.

Well from the sounds of it it certainly changed at STJ for the better based on what has been alluded to with the Repole and Wall Street involvement. If you can afford whole foods meat you don't need to shop at the strip mall grocery store anymore. But even if so maybe you don't throw away haphazardly the meat you had on hand beofre you forunes changed.

Nobody is throwing anything away People are being given the chance to play a schools that are commensurate with their talents
You folks are incredible I read comment after comment all winter about "what is he doing..." "why is he even in the game..." and now you want to somehow walk a tightrope of having a great program and at the same time keep the players you said were terrible all winter but somehow have an emotional connection to a kid you watch on TV maybe 4 hours a week for 13 weeks a year

You all wanted Pitino. Now that he is doing the proper thing and revamping the team you cry about losing guys you are emotionally attached to. These players you are emotionally attached to are the same players you constantly complained about all winter The alternative is you could had CMA return and you could spend all next winter complaining about losing. Now you have best of both worlds. You can watch SJU win with a great coach. And you can use your 1000 channel tv package and watch all the players you are emotionally attached to play for their new schools
"you all" I don't see that at all. There are a few on here that think turning kids away after 3 years on the team is not proper; however, a far majority on this board seem to have the opinion that we brought in the right guy (finally) and although we may be sad to see some of these kids go we put out trust in the new coach to do what is needed to win and win big!!

Holy Straw Man

So if fans get frustrated with players who make mistakes in game threads that suddenly means we are not allowed to also hold the opinion they are worth bringing back? News flash, AJ Storr or Joel made some bad plays this year and I am sure they were critiqued at times. Thats basketball.

what if I said "wow people in here celebrated Posh playing well at times in the past 3 years, how dare they not want him back?"

Except I would not say that seriously because it is stupid.

I don't understand why some of you are so willfully missing the point that some people value some players more than you do and that is okay.

Honesty that’s nonsense. You don’t have an MLB team with a favorite player that kills you if they leave ? Or any other sport ? I absolutely won’t believe you saying otherwise. Strawberry still hurts me going to LA. That’s why a lot of us still held on to college sports yeah we root for the team but we root for the kids. Anyone who identified with Lavins first year gets it. If you don’t agree with it that’s fine but don’t discount our opinions

Lavins first year was a very long time ago under a different system. As customers many of us are reacting to where the sport went. MLB has six years of service time where you can root for a player before they move on. NBA three years, etc.

But now in college basketball virtually all players (yes, there are a few exceptions where waivers are needed) are free agents every year. I mean, as I bring up every time we go down this path, it was three coaches ago (Lavin) when SJU last recruited a four-year player. It wasn't the schools that wanted this it was the players. They want to move around constantly.

I can fully understand why any fan would feel no emotional attachment to any current college basketball players, good or bad.

For those who do get attached, which includes my dear Mrs. IDRAFT, it makes for constant heartache. I'm out on that, I learned my lesson two years ago.

I'll bring my old flip phone to Novita for you to show to Mrs. IDRAFT to show that I understand her pain :)

I have hope, albeit small, that once the one time transfer rule is more firmly upheld, and the COVID exemption players age out, that it will at least cool down a bit.

Hopefully players realize now they can’t just change their mind EACH season. They get one chance at the mulligan.
