Rick Pitino - Head Coach at St John’s University!!!

I'm not saying it will or won't be easy, but a lotta ground can be quickly made up in today's college game. I look for us to create some noise next season. How much noise we make is to be determined. But I see us as being a player next season.
We're on the same side, Dink.
Man, that'd be sweet.
And I think we have the one college coach on the planet that between will, guile, wits, and skill...will do it.

Agreed Tony. Whenever I visit the campus today, I think it's even nicer then I remember it being. And that's with me now having visited a slew of campuses accross the country. And the surrounding area is pretty nice as well. Certainly a lot nicer then the areas around Fordham, Seton Hall and many other schools.
When I attended St John‘s in 1968 the campus was nothing resembling the campus of today! I think the campus is actually very nice for an urban school!

Pitino is going to weigh them all on a constant basis so the midnight snack runs are over.
I should hire him as my dietician / trainer then - Sadly, I have come to conclusion that I'm looking more and more like melted ice cream.

My summary of the Posh debate.
Two main negatives:
1. We presume that his overall demeanor toward Coach Anderson was disrespectful and such was reported to Pitino.
2. His "game" this year deteriorated with more turnovers, poor shooting, and overall reduced effectiveness.

On the other side :
1. his intensity, will to win, potential to generate opponent turnovers, and court awareness are all characteristics Pitino would appreciate..
2. A major causative factor for the negatives above was the cumulative frustration of adjusting/dealing with Anderson's support of
Curbelo's "style", Anderson's own communication inadequacies...and Posh having to play "out of position" all season until the last few weeks..

Likely Result: Posh and Pitino will meet and discuss above. IF Posh admits to his own failings above, commits to acting as a senior leader and to giving his best physically and mentally/emotionally, Pitino will agree to keep him. However, Pitino will reiterate that he wants shooting excellence. If he stays, Therefore, Posh's role will likely be off the bench as a backup point. If Posh can accept that, I think Pitino will see the competitive fire in him and let him stay if he wishes.
Frankly I would not retain Posh if I am Petino! He can’t shoot worth a dam and he is a turnover machine! Does he work hard when he’s on the court? Yes he does! Would I be upset if Rick retains him No! I just don’t believe Pitino would tolerate his deficiencies as a player thus limiting his minutes significantly!

The bottom line is with our core players we were able to beat Connecticut at Hartford...Providence...and come within two points twice to beating Marquette. Sure, the overall record was abysmal...but we would have been much better with Pitino as coach. He doesn't need to jettison everyone in order to get us the the NCAA's.

But would you if you were Pitino? And what's with all of the exclamation points? I feel like you're yelling at me. 😉🤣 Just messing around, hope you don't take this seriously

I went to Syracuse when they won the national championship, but will despise them until the day I die.

hey Blocked … welcome to RedFan. Be happy that the Johnnies have defeated Syracuse University the last 4 times the teams have played. My understanding is the SU broke off the home and home after Mullin’s team defeated Boeheim’s team during then2015-16 season.

I find it odd how we are trying to tell a hall of fame coach how to plan his roster for the upcoming year. I think Pitino has a firm grasp on the type of player he wants both physical attributes and the mental aspect for his type of team that he coaches. I know its just opinions etc and this is a message board to speak our minds, but the way some people are saying he should do this and that is out of our league. I like almost every player that donns the st johns jersey every year but based on this year it doesn't mean they need to be on the team this year if Pitino doesn't think they fit for him. I wish all those players well who leave and will be rooting for the ones that join.

I say let the man do his job and hopefully we wont be criticizing his moves and we will be rejoicing as we only have in such a distant past. But then again, thats my opinion and we all have those lol.

So to each his own.

Lets go johhnies/redmen/redstorm!!

Spot on! We had one day of unity and then all the criticism . Hall of fame coach! Let him decide who his players will be! Let’s build it up not tear it down!

Eric, I totally agree. I‘ll keep saying it. Most of us (myself included) have no idea of the issues that apparently were occurring off the floor and behind closed doors. Understanding this I am not sure why anyone is surprised that a new Coach (Pitino or anyone for that matter) is trying to restore order to what clearly was a chaotic situation.

Others seem to also be ignoring that it’s not 1980 anymore. Players now have “movement options”. As we have experienced or has everyone forgotten Duke and Greg Williams etc. We also have NIL money issues to deal with. I didn’t like it but college basketball is not far from (or is) pro sports given that $$$ is a consideration. You can’t have it both ways. We will now have players come and go. Schools and Coaches will also move players in and out. Criticizing Pitino for doing just that is ridiculous. Like it or not the system and the rules have changed. It is not for everyone but just look around. Don’t play by the “new” rules and you will have no chance.

Wow, a very objective post. Hope it doesn't go over too many heads. There are over 70 pages on this thread telling Hall of Fame Coach Rick Pitino how to complete his roster, which players to jettison, which players don't fit his system, and who he should go after in the transfer portal. Why is it that in an effort to feel self important that posters are throwing any and everything out there so that if something sticks, they can say I told you so.

I also don't think that posters stop and think before they post. I can't count how many times while waiting for Pitino to be announced as our Coach, posters stated that there was enough talent on this roster and if Pitino was our coach we would have been much better. Y'all can't have it both ways. When Soriano posted after Coach Anderson was fired that he would not be coming back, some on here were quick to say, "let the door hit ya where the Good Lord split ya". I seriously doubt whether anyone on here, myself included, expected Drissa to be back.

I apologize to anyone who spoke to Coach Pitino before posting about how he should do his job and what he is thinking.

I just think that many here have affinity for one or more of our current players and wishfully think that a less drastic approach might have been possible in the transition year. Of course, Pitino knows better than us how to get where he wants to get to, and so he should have and does have the latitude. But, the emotional part of seeing guys we liked, and thought were good guys let go, or encouraged to seek a place elsewhere, is just that, an emotional response. We would not be fans if we were not emotionally attached to the program and its team members. (I know you know this, I am just articulating it).

Having said that, I do think that (as pointed out above), this team had enough talent if coached right or differently, to have been a tourney team. But Pitino isn't reaching that low, so his scorched earth approach is what he feels is necessary to reach higher than what was our minimum expectation.

I find this post highly offensive and I am PM’ing Paul because I am in dire need of a safe space, fully equipped with an espresso machine, freshly baked panettone, and the call of Bobby Nystrom’s OT goal to clinch the Islanders first Stanley Cup in 1980 played on a loop.

How dare you say we cannot give our expert advice to a hall of fame coach while sitting on a recliner and wearing our socks and sandals (old school dad style).

We are…
