Rick Pitino - Head Coach at St John’s University!!!

I remember when I was a student one fellow student called the campus "a bunch of buildings and a patch of grass surrounded by a huge parking lot". I really didn't think much of the campus as far as aesthetics back then.

I like Monte and others have seen many campuses during my collegiate and work years. It was not uncommon for my family to drive around a college campus if we were on vacation out of town to just take a look. I have seen some that are breathtaking and some that are dumps, small and large. Did the college tours with my three kids.

All that being said, I look at St. John's campus now and can't believe all of the building they did and are still doing. It is not a dump or "a bunch of buildings and a patch of grass surrounded by a huge parking lot". I wish it had more land to do more building but they are making what they have work.

No if they could only do something with CA.
IMO 85', CA is fine as a practice and OOC game facility.

i think Rick would be a fan of continuity if he felt that the players on the current roster could play his style and Win. He apparently doesn't.

My best coaches in sports and managers in the workplace were always transparent and set expectations accordingly. If i was slipping- they acknowledged it and challenged me to be better. It's tough to hear at the time, but I am (and think more people would benefit) glad they were honest with me. Luckily I always met the chanllenge and never had to "leave"... (granted it wasn't High Major Hoops with Pitino as coach lol)
Seriously, who looks at anyone on this roster aside from Storr and Soriano and thinks "this is a kid who could start in the Final Four." zero. We have to have higher standards

i enjoy hearing about fans who like two schools and hearing their connections that led them to rooting for each school. How'd you end up a Hall and SJU fan?

Apologies if you said already in a prior post
I've been a St. John's fan for as long as I can remember. I grew up on Long Island, my dad started taking me to St. John's games when I was a kid and I ended up graduating from St. John's in '06.

I became a Seton Hall fan a few years later while attending Seton Hall Law. Being a St. John's fans I used to despise Seton Hall, but now I'll root for them when they are not playing St. John's

Clayton and Posh would complement each other very nicely and would give us the best defensive backcourt in the conference.

IF Posh won’t be back—which we have no clue on right now—it won’t be basketball related. Posh would excel in Pitino’s system.

Firing a coach for cause is extremely difficult to do. It must have been REALLY bad behind the scenes for their lawyers to recommend that course of action knowing it would result in tons of fees, a very public divorce, and bad press for at least a year.

Without knowing who did what off the court, I’d really like to see Posh, Wusu, Storr, Soriano, and Stanley back. I’d love to keep Gardner committed and wouldn’t mind seeing King back—although I think he is easily replaced. Posh could be amazing under Pitino.
It would be interesting if the lawsuit shows us that Anderson really did mess up in the locker room and class room. I would be surprised

Not sure what happened in locker room, but if anything happened other than good grades in the classroom it had to be this year, because school publicized good grades from basketball team the prior 2 years. Anyway, that is for lawyers and interested parties to hash out.

This is the hill I will die on:

Posh can thrive in Pitino's system and deserves the opportunity to show he can.

And for the record: PG Peyton Siva shot .288 from 3 the year Louisville won the whole damn thing, .291 for his career.
The turnovers and bad decisions are what kills him. But those are things that can be improved with coaching.

I went to Syracuse law in the mid 90s. Wore my St John's Red, proudly, F the Orange. Change your name to Pirate Iscariot.

No doubt Pitino could win with the players CMA had on team last season. But if you listened to Pitino at his presser he said we will win and win big hence the need to upgrade the roster. I realize winning big is somewhat of a foreign concept to St. John’s fans.
Exactly, people complain about doing nothing for 23 years, oh we need another coaching change.

Well now we have the best coach in coll bball, and he's what is needed to win big time, unless you guys just want "good enough."

Stop complaining, and enjoy what a winning coach is about to do.

Yeah it sucks that these kids gotta leave but guess what everyone, once they win big and get a championship everyone on this site will love those ballers and have attachments to them. I promise you everything will be okay.

Just CHILLAXXXXXXXXXXX

You all wanted Pitino. Now that he is doing the proper thing and revamping the team you cry about losing guys you are emotionally attached to. These players you are emotionally attached to are the same players you constantly complained about all winter The alternative is you could had CMA return and you could spend all next winter complaining about losing. Now you have best of both worlds. You can watch SJU win with a great coach. And you can use your 1000 channel tv package and watch all the players you are emotionally attached to play for their new schools

Nonsense. Almost everyone on here is saying they will trust Pitino's ultimate roster decisions. What many of us are not doing is trying to make those decisions for him and run kids out of town, thanking those kids who have decided to leave for their efforts and wishing them well. Not that hard to understand.

You seem like you're wound just a little too tight and I guess I'm a little more laid back. But I appreciate the suggestion - I'll take it under consideration.
I'm a rabid St. John's fan but I also love the Gators. Mostly because of Tim Tebow and their football program and both of my stepdaughters are Gator grads. If SJU was playing the Gators for a National Championship, I'm rooting for SJU all the way. F the Gators! LOL! ;)

Seriously. Every time I’ve checked this thread the last couple of days I see a few posts where people are mentioning a couple specific players they’d like to see stay in a sort of non-forceful but “it would be nice if…” kind of tone and then much more intense posts about how people need to “trust Pitino!” that frame the discourse as if people are demanding that the majority of the roster needs to stay (I literally don’t recall having seen one person say that) It seems like everyone really trusts Pitino, is grateful to have him and some posters have one or a couple players they’d like to see hang around. Why is that an issue?

Haha. I actually started my college career at UF at the beginning of the Ron Zook years and transferred to St. John's at the beginning of Norm Roberts' tenure. Brought my bad luck to both universities.
