Rick Pitino - Head Coach at St John’s University!!!

totally agree!

Past history at St John’s would suggest Masiello would be elevated from his position currently .

Past history also says , Head Coaches at Manhattan College have not been home run hires for us . Except Fraschilla .

Brian Mahoney , Coached poorly at Manhattan before becoming Lou’s Assistant .

He was a good Assistant but , fared not as well as a head Coach .

Brian spent a lot of years in various roles with the.School , Post Louie .

I think in this new Shanley/Kull regime they will learn from history of poor decisions, not repeat them.

Let's not forget another Manhattan Coach Bobby Gonzalez who lobbied hard for our job, went to Seton Hall and imploded a la Kevin Bannon and Mike Rice.

You bring up some interesting names from the past .

Bannon , Rice , Gonzalez . Ever wonder what happens to these guys when they lose their Coaching jobs ? What do they do ?

Incidentally , you could add Gordon Chiesa to the list of former Manhattan College Coaches .

He was hired by Pitino when Rick was at Providence and actually followed Rick as Friar Coach when Rick left ,
I think Gordon was let go after 1 year. Rumor has it he threw Marty Conlon out of practice 1 time and RP went beserk upon learning one of his Friar players was treated so badly .

Chiesa was fired at season end , with a lot of input from Rick .

I thinks Chiesa went to the Jazz as Asst Coach for many years under Jerry Sloan .

I don't like making broad generalizations about people, especially based on nationality/continent. But I wonder if players from Europe used to the club/pro system & lack of "hometown" or program prestige bias will be a new focus for coaches in terms being able to retain.

Who is having more fun than Pitino this year? I see video after video of friends and former players visiting him after sold out games in the world's most famous arena. He gets to live in his home area, return NYC's team to glory, play golf all the time, and he has a revolving door of people coming to spend time with him. And he plays his son annually now. It doesn't get any better than that.

Repole is sitting courtside with his daughter sitting on his knee living it up and seeing the results of his money. There is no way he could have thought that he would get that kind of return on his investment so fast....next year could be wild with increases. Pitino really is in the best situation imaginable for him.
