Rick Pitino - Head Coach at St John’s University!!!

This year is nice opportunity to do that. He’ll have a lot of holes to fill next year. Going through portal nonsense again w all the head case advisors must not be his favorite activity. 😇
Doesn't Matt A. work through the financials with the family of the player RP is zeroing in on so when the actual visit comes, RP just make his usual recruiting pitch? Was pretty certain I heard that's the school's approach.

Nice they had CRP on today, but didn't need all the talk about Judge, Soto, etc. Shoulda' stuck more to Looie, what he meant to the school, the players, old stories.
so true, I could only get on at 12:07 PM and they were onto other things, Yankees, Judge, NIL, portal, etc., Looie deserved all 17 minutes.

Think you were expecting Pitino to be something he isn’t and can’t be in respect to honoring Carnessecca and feeling what most of us are feeling. Let’s face it, although Pitino is our coach now, he’s the last person able to speak about who Lou Carnesecca was, what he meant to our program, to St. John’s University, and to New York City.
He’s only been here for a year and a couple of months and spent Louie’s prime years focused on programs in Kentucky. As for differences in character, as Louie said, “That’s why we have confession.”

I was disappointed the hosts, especially Brandon Tierney didn't keep it all about Looie. Tierney is the radio (part time) color guy and does the StJ Coach's show. He wanted to brag about being able to get Rick on the radio, and talk about Rick and their Coach show, and talk about Knicks, Yankees, Soto, "Me to BT: "keep it about the Legend that died two days before, please."

I agree, except when Rick coached in the BE his coming across us and our Coach was limited and he was a carpetbagger who left the NY environs for the Pros, and the Blue Grass state for much of our's and Lou's heyday.

By the time CRP got to St. John's Looie's health was so poor he and Rick probably didn't interact very much. Two different human beings, I'll leave it at that.

Rick Pitino is certainly not without his flaws, has a major ego, is all about showmanship and does things that annoy us. But that being said. I've really enjoyed witnessing the love and respect he's shown towards St. John's and the school's basketball history. He seems to have a genuine appreciation for it, and it's special to see especially for a Hall of Fame coach who had no ties to the program previously.

He's not perfect. But another reminder that we are lucky he is here.

I remember Rick Pitino at the top of the college basketball world beating the Johnnies and rubbing it in by complementing Norm before after every game. I took it as him being a gracious winner but also as a clever and disingenuous way to keep us near the bottom.

If anyone told me that 20 or so years later we would see Rick Pitino leading this program, openly paying players and wearing an imitation sweater in honoring couch Lou's legacy I would have bet that person the house against that crazy thought.
