Rick Pitino - Head Coach at St John’s University!!!

I don't see Rick's ego letting him retire until he brings us to at least a Sweet 16 but who knows?
This year is nice opportunity to do that. He’ll have a lot of holes to fill next year. Going through portal nonsense again w all the head case advisors must not be his favorite activity. 😇

And that's a difference between Pitino and some of the other greats who've stepped aside in recent years, his ego. He doesn't strike me as the type who would be satisfied sitting at home relaxing. He appears to crave the spotlight and the microphone.

All that being said, he also appears to really enjoy what comes with being in NYC. So I can't see him jumping ship at this point for a bigger job in another part of the country. I really don't know how this all ends, but I hope for the best.

But this year, we retained every player he wanted. Hes apparently so bullish on retention this year, we aren’t even recruiting high school seniors this cycle. And based on everything he’s talked about with this team, it’s very obvious he enjoys this team more than last.
Maybe. I think the reason he’s not recruiting high school kids is because he thinks he’d be better of taking portalers as they’d be more ready to contribute right away than freshmen.

And yeah I think he enjoys the talent on this team more but we had a player suspension and rumors of players not getting along before December this season. Nothing like that happened last year

funny enough I think whether he retires or not depends on if he can get the game at Kentucky next year. If they can’t work it out I can see him retiring. I think he wants one last victory lap around KY.

I think Pitino’s style of Coaching is having difficulty in the new Age of NIL Money and free Transfers , without Penalty .
Pitino built his prior teams over several Seasons as those players usually remained for 4 years .

Having to barter , cajole and capitulate in getting these BB Nomads to come to St John’s must be hard for a Guy like Pitino . He has his HOF plaque , Millions of dollars of Wealth and a legacy to retire to comfortably .

Having to entice the Smiths and Richmond’s to come here for anything besides money is foolish , if anyone believes otherwise .
Both these Players have 3 or more schools they have sold their skills to in the past . Anyone thinking they have any love or commitment to St John’s beyond their Compensation is ridiculous .
As such , Team effort , Coach’s instructions , mean little to hired guns .
Attitude is a big part of Team , some players have it and some don’t .
To me , if a Player shows up a Coach in public , as Smith has seemingly done ,he has earned whatever Punishment is presented .
At this point , if that means Smith isn’t going to play anymore or , he quits the team , so be it.
Sure , he’s a good player but , you can’t have dissension between Coach , player and teammates continue . No matter , if that unfavorably affects our Team’s performance .
Neither Smith or Richmond are NBA players , this could be the last big paycheck they get and they may have their eye of their next stop , rather than the current one.
Pitino has more practice than most in paying players. Recruiting is even easier now. He said so himself he just immediately ‘goes to the negotiating table.’ The trick is roster composition and playing a style that highlights the strength of your players. Relying on what worked for Louisville in 2011 is a fool’s errand.

Jim Boeheim ran his ‘zone offense’ that seemingly had 4 sets he ran for 45 years. But when did he win? When he gave Melo the ball and let him run with it.

Everyone thinks they are an insider for St. John’s, so I won’t put a lot of weight there.

I think Pitino sees our NIL situation as a positive unlike many of his older peers.

If he asks Repole and others for the #1 NIL for a year or two, he’ll get it
100% he said as much. He does recruit any more he ‘just goes straight to the negotiating table.’ He’s literally been during that his whole coaching career even when it’s legality was murkier. This is literally his time to shine!!
