Rick Pitino - Head Coach at St John’s University!!!

Information I was given was that around Christmas time Soriano suffered a meniscus tear but was convinced to play through it. This would explain his fall off in play after a good start to the season when we all thought he became less aggressive. Joel deserves even more kudos for gutting it out and playing through an injury.
Lovett or hate it, if true, after a strong start, Soriano played himself out of the draft by his diminished play, injured or not. If the real Soriano was pre-injury, hopefully a healthy Joel can play himself onto an NBA roster.

Sad to say, but the tailoff was so dramatic that for his own sake might have been better to end his season if he was injured.

The NBA is bigger, faster, and stronger but at 8% body fat, Soriano did look like a beast early on.

I thought the same thing! El Duque might be older I believe was in the Bay of Pigs. Apparently got his social security check when running around the shea stadium outfield.
Seriously though, El Duque was a joy to watch with the Mets. He could throw a curve ball at 65 mph, an a fastball in the 70s. I had season tix back then, and when he got to what he knew was his last inning, would get throw a fastball on the black at 85mph, then to the next guy at 87mph or 88. Like Pedro, we didn't see him at his peak but was such a damned good pitcher it was worth the price of a ticket to watch him keep hitters off balance all game.

He was like what you describe with the Yankees except better, at his “US peak”, and one of the best big moment/money pitchers the Yanks have had in my lifetime.

"Well, he's where he should be all the time.."

"Where had you gone Rick Pitino, our city turns it's lonely eyes on you.."

"Welcome back, your dreams were your ticket out.."

Seriously, Rick was born for NYC. Hard to believe at most Knick playoff games, the best coach was in the stands and not on the sidelines.

Not sure what you mean by this, but if it is what I think it is (criticism of Thibs) it's unnecessary and very arguably untrue.
