Rick Pitino - Head Coach at St John’s University!!!

Hopefully no truth to that.
i hate when people do this on twitter. Allude to something without giving proper context or information. Like WHO posted?
I am not on X (Twitter), that was just a screen shot sent from a friend. Anyone on Twitter could probably find it but IDK, all I know is hopefully it isn't true.

I found it on twitter. I don't "know" him as a poster, but he refuses to actually show a screenshot of it + go into any more info. So who knows.

if players start decommitting over this and it spirals out of control get ready for ol Rick to hit the eject button

lol Rick Pitino will not quit this job. It was a one day story.

This guy cares a lot about legacy. I think he's thin skinned and extremely frustrated by this year + last offseason. He didn't realize that starting the job in mid-March would put him behind the eight ball on players. I think he's "over" this year, and looking forward to hitting the portal fiercely. I was a critic of the press conference, but you know what, he also showed exactly who he is -- for better & for worse. If you're going to decommit or not commit to us based on that, you were never a good fit.

And I also think he underestimated the Big East, in terms of how tough it is night in and night out + the athleticism & talent required.

Next year will be Pitino's real "Year 1" -- with his players and coaches from top to bottom.

I think that is a good take. He wants to go out big, and I think he stays the course. On the presser, even if he had some overall intent in what he said and how he said it, sometimes even the smartest guy in the room overshoots the target.

I agree. I can't see him walking away on such a bad note. And as much as I disagree with some of his words lately, I really hope he doesn't.

Aren't you the one who pointed out other coaches who have gotten hired in March and had immediate success? These are his players that is the most frustrating part about all of this. If he wanted a built in excuse he should have just kept the Anderson squad and blamed them for all their losses. That would have been right up Rick's alley.

This is Rick's real year 1. He is failing. Hopefully year 2 is better. But if it is, its still his year 2.

The biggest factor of staying or going is the NIL.

The team has been bad, and this is a hot story because a lot of people do not like Pitino and want him to fail.

As mentioned earlier, Pitino will not leave because:
1. This would be a bad look on his HOF resume’
2. This job is his last real chance to win

Sure. This is all semantics at the end of the day. But I do think from his perspective, I think he's going to tell himself that next year is his true Year 1 and we'll start to see what we expected on the court.

I don’t give a sh*t how many rings he has, he’s arrogant and abusive and I wouldn’t let a son of mine anywhere near him.
I understand your comment . It has some validity and a personal opinion on having a Son play for Rick .

But , we all have to understand , we aren’t talking about 18-19 year old “ kids “ anymore .
I haven’t looked at the Birthdays of these players but , other than Wilcher and Dunlap , none of our players have seen High school in 3-4 years or longer .
Some of our team ate 23-,24 or 25 years old . The Covid portal and free transfer rule have brought us to now , Professional Basketball with a College uniform on . The Nil is just getting started and will result in totally removing any attachment of the word Student with Athlete .

Sure Colleges will still need to pluck the prime talent out of HS but , unless they are can’t miss NBA players at age 18-19., many of them won’t play much , I.e. Wilcher and Dunlap , etc .
The bulk of College teams going forward is keep as many of your Core players as possible , bring in as many Stud Portal players as you can and grab the HS kid who plays the game you want to play . Tell them they won’t play much the first year .

It’s a new Day for College Athletics. We as fans have to adjust too. We have to stop with the using the word “Kids.” With rare exception , 24 year olds are not kids.

All of are team are being paid to play . Taking money means taking criticism for job performance .
While it’s not Management Principles 101, public scourging of Employees is not a good idea . Ever .
But , most of those players , especially the 24 -25 year olds will be moving on , with SJU $$$ in their pockets . Their performance or , in this case , lack of it , is subject to fan criticism and we , on this Board do it all the time . It’s what fans do , when results don’t equal our expectations .

Poor Jets fans , loyal as the day is long but , hope is now several generations overdue . Mets ? Coming up on, 38 years since 86 . Giants ? Since 2012 . Rangers 1994 .

St John’s mostly 2 decades of poor results .

On the other hand , maybe Pitino has gotten all he can from this team ? But , due to his ego can’t deal with the losing , no matter what .

This fan base has regularly expressed dismay with nearly every player , at one time or another .

Each one of us has their favorite target .
Marillac has Jenkins . Most of us have pinpointed Soriano , since we had him projected as a NBA first rounder . Mr . double double .

Joel isn’t all to blame . Other than he and Jenkins , sometimes Zuby, Alleyne , this is team of 2 Ivy League players in key starting roles , who play hard but , haven’t delivered at a BE level .

I’m excluding Wilcher and Brady as they get incomplete as limited play freshman .

Luis , Taylor , Conway , Traore , are College players but , not at a BE level .

Maybe we should be praising RP for winning 6 games already , with a chance to win 9 or 10, with a Roster like it is .

BE Coaches learned stopping Soriano and tiring out Jenkins would result in a Win . No one else would or could step up and beat them .

No one has commented yet as to how the Media and Pitino will co exist going forward . Rick has taken a beating from nearly all, local and National press .
Will he turn into John Tortorella ? Who knows at this point .
Will anyone in the University Admin make any Publix comments ? Very , very doubtful .

Rick knows he has been over the top w individual player digs for a while, but is too stubborn to walk it back apparently. I guess he will let the situation die down. At very least he should talk to players privately to smooth things over and move on. (Maybe he has)

Huge ego, a thirst for attention and loose lips w the mic is a bad combination. SJ is paying Rick to recruit, coach and represent the University positively, but not seek an “Oscar” for candor. Find the happy medium Coach.
