Rick Pitino - Head Coach at St John’s University!!!

From the Athletic

Former Supreme Court justice Potter Stewart once said “I know it when I see it,” when asked in 1964 to describe his test for obscenity. Paraphrasing Stewart, I know classlessness when I see it, and Pitino was the essence of the word Sunday.

Some will shrug and say it’s part of the Pitino Experience, pointing out that he has displayed this type of behavior during the formative stages of each of his coaching stops. Maybe so, but that should not give him cover from being called out for publicly shaming individual players whose deficiencies were known to him before he signed them, which he acknowledged Sunday.
………….
But openly criticizing Soriano, Ledlum, Conway and Traore for their lack of lateral quickness is not going to produce a sudden and dramatic improvement in their physical abilities. Sometimes we are what we are, and no amount of training or public shaming is going to change that.

Rick knows he has been over the top w individual player digs for a while, but is too stubborn to walk it back apparently. I guess he will let the situation die down. At very least he should talk to players privately to smooth things over and move on. (Maybe he has)

Huge ego, a thirst for attention and loose lips w the mic is a bad combination. SJ is paying Rick to recruit, coach and represent the University positively, but not seek an “Oscar” for candor. Find the happy medium Coach.
He's also not used to losing. You have to go back almost 20 years since he had a losing record in conference play.

Not exactly like fighting in a foxhole, suck it up Rick & coach your team. Most of us are
quite happy we have Rick and realize he is human. However, I am not in the “Never Criticize Rick Club” that rationalizes his behavior.

No it won't improve but hopefully make the smarter in the sense of not committing to one side.

Perfect analysis.

Strongly agree that he should talk to the players privately but I would be pleasantly surprised if he did.

Pitino reading everything everyone's saying, taking notes, collecting names, and then next season settling all family business.

From Zach

Just caught up with Rick Pitino.

"I think I'm maximizing everything we can possibly maximize, But that hasn't been enough, so we're still still losing. That's on me. I take losing very personally, I take losing to heart, I take losing to bed. It eats at me."

"I think we all can get better. I can get better. Everything can get better. But there's no question about it, we could've won games that we lost. We've been competitive. I don't give myself high grades at all because we're losing."
