Rick Pitino - Head Coach at St John’s University!!!

Is he as happy as he can be though? Brings in a top class every year, and fans still want to run him out of town on a rail because he doesn't have 13 straight championships.
Brings in A top class , many of whom leave every year to get paid. They want final fours in Kentucky and have high expectations when there is little continuity. I don’t think they expect annual championships. But like Duke this season an excellent freshman class but no sweet 16.

I suspect 1) already happened, 2) is tonight, and 3) and 4) are Tuesday.
Just got off the phone with a friend of mine who's a high school coach in NYC, someone very close Pitino told him that the only potential hold up could be that RP wants to name his successor which is Maisiello, which was said before on this site. Just wanted to share what I heard. But this same person did say this is also a done deal, he's coming to SJU. Looking forward Tuesday brothers!

My only question is if it is a done deal, then naming his successor, like Masiello was not a negotiation point.

I guess the assumption is that SJU will not lose RP over a successor and we can also assume this conversation was started a few weeks ago.

let rick get his successor, if he retires at that point that successor can get hired then fired the next day with no buyout clause. I really dont lie zago just saying. Ever since he said anderson is staying that means any source he has doesnt know a thing.

Adam Zagoria posted this Thursday:

There was some speculation that Pitino brought Masiello aboard as a potential successor should he leave for St. John’s or another job. But the plan now is for them to be together next season — at Iona, St. John’s or wherever Pitino is.

Masiello said he could see Pitino coaching another decade, to which Pitino said, “I hope I can coach for another 12 years, but I’ll take 6 or 7.”

I love the 6 or 7 years line from RP!
