Rick Pitino - Head Coach at St John’s University!!!

Pitino is my favorite basketball coach.
At this point just can’t see good things happening for the program.
Hope it happens but will believe it when it officially happens.
But then this program took the hardest working best player in its program and turned him into a lazy mail it in coach. So who knows what it has in store for Rick if does come.
The program turned Mullin into a mail it in coach? That is on him and no one else!

After Pitino finishes negotiating his contract complete with facility upgrades and NIL minimums, he will leave the room.

Shortly thereafter, he comes back in (like Columbo) and say.... "Oh, and one more thing. When we say a giveaway goes to the first 1,500 fans -you cannot distribute the item to fans when they are LEAVING. Because that's just stupid"

Something tells me that even after Pitino is hired, there will still be some outside noise. For a while anyway. Fact is, some are going to hope that Pitino fails because thier hatred of Pitino is greater then their love of SJU.
Wow, I think this was true regarding Anderson, but I can't see any fans rooting for St Johns to lose because of Pitino.

For transparency sake I was always dubious about Pitino coming here and also had some concerns about his age and some past issues that have come up over his career. Most of my posts were suggesting that getting a younger mid-major coach on the way up was the way to go (ala the Jay Wright hire from Hofstra to Villanova back in 2001).

However it certainly appears like Pitino is going to be hired and there are a host of positives that come with him coming here. First is that his reputation, charisma, history of success and coaching acumen will create an excitement and optimism around this program that has not been there in this century. Second it will positively impact our roster immediately because his presence will likely be an incentive for current players to stay and talented transfers to come. Additionally, Pitino's mere presence will boost our ability to attract a higher level of recruit than we have been able to attract previously. Third we will be able to attract more money (see the Repole statements), sell more tickets and will likely garner significantly more media attention. Fourth with Pitino coaching us, we should get better results, which should get us more wins and success, which will drive everything else forward. Winning changes everything and if that happens, then our twenty first century results will begin to deliver like it did before the retirement of Lou Carnesecca. As a fan of the program you have to be excited about all of that.

You think this was true of Anderson from the get go? If so, with the exception of maybe a few posters who also hated Anderson more they love SJU, I didn't see it. Now, as time went on, and fans felt like CMA was not the answer, I could see apathy setting in. I know it did with me.

I called it irritation, then outright anger.

I would think this is the one time there would be nothing but joy on this board we are about to hire one of the all time greatest college basketball coaches who will make us a winner again this is nothing but great news. If you don’t like Pitino for some odd reason name another coach on his level that would realistically come here! We have not won an NCAA tourney game in 23 years we need a big time coach to change that! Again this is a time for celebration we are about to get really good really fast.

Didn't log on until afternoon today and I really can't believe I had to wade through a bunch of pages where there are people still paranoid, still saying he'd go to Georgetown, still worried he's staying at Iona. Are we really this beaten down as a fanbase?

And apparently I missed Maher being called an elitist.😁

Elitist is what I would be if I had his job and his passport. He's pretty mellow all things considered. 😁
