The reality is that it's Pitino or an up and comer like Speedy Claxton. Given those choices, I believe Pitino is absolutely the right hire for SJU.

But at the same time, I don’t disparage people who have reservations. They are legitimate. Why do you think Georgetown, Notre Dame, etc are apparently not making a serious play for him? He’s a scandal-laden 70-year-old. Personally, I’m ok with that! But I understand those who aren’t.

Ah, no, not because of his past. It's because they knew all along that he was coming here. So they were smart enough not to make themselves look like they were rejected by Pitino.

Goodman said Pitino was willing to walk over broken glass (or something to that effect) to get the Georgetown job. He wasn't offered it.

Georgetown knows Pitino isn't moving out of NY, he said in an interview: "Before moving was no big deal, now it is."
So I don't care what Goodman says.

Pitino isn't leaving moving out of NY again.

Maybe. But Georgetown is the bigger job. If you started a rumor that Ed Cooley was going to leave Providence for SJU, you'd get laughed off Twitter.
 
We can debate all day which is the better HC job, GT or SJU. But there is zero doubt in my mind that, based on a variety of factors(geography, MSG, personal contacts, etc), SJU is the best available job for Pitino at this point in his life.

I’m not gonna say one job is bigger than the other. They have both been crap for a long time. Again Goodman saying he’d walk on broken glass is a ludicrous statement.

Bottom line Gtown president is on the NCAA BOG and he would never be able to look at his constituents in the eye by hiring Pitino. So boosters might want him but it’s a complete non starter when the President of the school is on the BOG of the organization who has called Pitino out in the past.

Something tells me that even after Pitino is hired, there will still be some outside noise. For a while anyway. Fact is, some are going to hope that Pitino fails because thier hatred of Pitino is greater then their love of SJU.
