Rick Pitino - Head Coach at St John’s University!!!

First the comment back to Hurley about Gonzaga! Then "UConn is a decent team." Now this change in venue! He is right why give schools like Villanova or Uconn any opportunity to make it a neutral site. I have always said what SJU needs is a 10k arena on campus. Looks like the powers that be at SJU are finally starting to realize that Alumni Hall/Carnesecca arena is a true home court advantage! Figure out a wat to expand it or build a new on campus gym.

Whats odd to me about UCONN / MSG is the timing. He said it after the Hofstra game, not the Recent Uconn game.

He put it out there, so would be pretty odd if he did it to create a little buzz and then ends up not holding to his plan next year.

I like the idea of Uconn at CA, but I also think it's sends a message that our program is not big time enough to have a home advantage at MSG. Rick did just say that though. Reality may be setting in.

I think everyone including Pitino is over analyzing and talking too much about the topic of where we play games.

If we win, fans will come. When they come, we will have a strong home court advantage anywhere.

We havent won anything in 25 years. Doesn’t matter where we play.

Yup!!

With a top 25 caliber team we should be able to draw 10,000 fans against Hofstra at UBS.

I have no problem at all playing Fordham at MSG and Hofstra at UBS. If we have to worry about those games, we are in trouble. Let their fans contribute to our ticket sales for the one game per season they actually attend.

Agree and we worry about everything. Years of irrelevance and frustration does that 😇

Of course it matters. If you give up your hone court advantage in the Garden when we play Villanova, UCONN, Georgetown or anyone with a strong enough fan base who buy 40-70% of tickets, at the end of a season you could be just one win short of an ncaa bid.

Don't you think Rick looks at our poor attendance and knows that we will have a tougher time winning at home than our opponents do on their home court?

Our home court record is 8th best in big east on the chart Paultz put up. 16-8 could easily have been 18-6 or better if a better home court advantage existed.

Yes Rick definitely has created a nyc buzz about our team. Enough to pry local fans away from big screen tvs?

Demand for tix is like real estate. Inventory that is lower than demand pushes demand higher. If our entire Big East season was in a small arena we'd win more and ticket demand would surge.

It won't happen, but you can't win without a hone court advantage for all of your home games.

I said it a little flippantly but my main point is, there seems to be a chicken and egg argument about getting good attendance/home advantage based on where we are playing. I actually just think the egg is winning games — that will make fans buy tickets for games everywhere we play: Carnesseca, MSG, and yes, Barclays (if its part of the season ticket package). Of course, there’s pros and cons to each place, but if we’re winning, fans will come.

The Michigan game had an electric feel to it. People bought plenty of tickets. Fans were pumped to see Pitino and the new look team. If we are a bonafide top 25 team next year, I sincerely don’t think the UCONN/Villanova/Georgetown games will feel like neutral court games. I think Pitino overestimated that the casual fans would return immediately without some proven success, and that Michigan game + early skids against Dayton & Boston College really didn’t help.

From my limited perspective, I think the Duke/st John’s game with Hatten hitting the game winning free throw was the best home court advantage I’ve experienced at MSG, but some Lavin games were close also.
