Rick Pitino - Head Coach at St John’s University!!!

The only way Barclays works is if it’s part of the season ticket package — pure and simple. A weekend would also be very helpful + the university should make this as easiest as possible for students to go to. Charter a bus, set up a pregame spot (plenty of options) get a restaurant to give a discount to students nearby, etc.
Barclays in general, I feel as arena has been set up to fail. The demo of Brooklyn has changed. I thought they didn’t do enough in beginning to get families from south Brooklyn to go to games. It’s a solid concert venue. Also, the Nets should’ve rebranded and made an effort to be a Bklyn team. Yourmark did a good job when he was in charge bringing in college tourneys but should’ve worked with us. If we had played 3 games a year there and it was part of package things would be better.

I think Pitino may be realizing it isn’t a bad idea to play a small, emphasize small, number of BE games at Carnesecca. He’s commented a few times how he think it’s a real home court advantage and tough for the opposing team. Of course no power 5 games or the better Big East programs/traditional rivals.
In other words, only have a home court advantage when you don’t need it.:oops:
Not having a true D1 home court is a legit dilemma.

watched some YouTube videos of Pitino’s Louisville teams on this rainy day:

- Their guards fought like hell thru screens and rarely switched because of it
- His big men were usually quick, athletic and active. Lots of blocked shots on dribble drives, good help defense. It’s really a compliment to Sorianos work in the off-season, becoming a big man that Pitino trusts on defense
- intense full court ball pressure, very similar to what we see so far
- up tempo offense, lots of quick shots, constant motion
- elite guard play on both ends. Penetration was key to everything. Beat your man and good things happen

Looking at the team this year, you’ll see similarities with the way Luis, Taylor, Jenkins play. I think Wilcher, Glover and Brady also fit

So far Dingle seems a bit slow for Pitino

Being honest if Barclays was part of the package personally for me I still might not go. If it was a Saturday game before 4 I guess that's better odds. The school definitely not at fault for students and Barclays I was on campus a couple days before the Barclays game and saw signage that they were offering free busses to Barclays.

UBS for the Kansas game I wasn't impressed but saw a concert there and liked it a lot. If we start winning and drawing crowds which will definitely come with winning IMO while MSG is my favorite place of all time UBS to me seems like it could be viable over time for some games.

Looking at the LIRR train schedule it shocks me how many trains from Huntington run to UBS now

I'm fine if Rick wants UBS to be part of the rotation between MSG and CA

What’s needed is a contract binding the student and school. These are now professionals. They need to be treated accordingly.
Essentially every player has a one year commitment, and they earn NIL as the year progresses. I guess it's no different than any job any of us has had. You can leave at any time and go somewhere else.

It really sucks for a mid major school with very little or no NIL resources who has a player who has a bustout season. Now almost for certain he goes into the portal and gets paid.

Agree & destruction of so many mid majors will make the Dance less appealing with limited access and upsets imo.

My favorite sporting event with all its excitement seems ready to morph into elites only event. Kids from schools like St Peter’s, Fairleigh Dickinson & many more won’t get to enjoy the feel of an upset too often the way things are going. “One shining light” will be flickering in the wind.

I think we're way overthinking this. Early season OOC games and a few Big East games at CA, the rest at MSG. I don't see Barclays or UBS ever drawing as much as MSG for a marquee match up
Msg not always available plus I'd be pretty sure that for an anticipated crowd of 7-10k ubs is a better deal that can make more money than either ca or msg.

Just to get to the point where we could put 15000 of our own fans into the garden would be amazing.

The advantage of UBS is the comfort of the seats. It's better for us aging folks backs.

Elmont - UBS Arena Station is a full time station along the Hempstead Branch but trains from other branches on the Mainline running through Nassau (Ronkonkoma, Huntington, Port Jefferson, Oyster Bay and even the rare Montauk Branch train that travels over the Central Branch and joins the Ronkonkoma Branch between Farmingdale and Bethpage Stations) have access to its platforms. It is a regular stop on the Hempstead Branch and some Huntington and Ronkonkoma off peak trains and an added stop on some trains (peak and off peak) during some events. There are also Belmont Trains that run directly to Belmont and actually brings you closer to the Arena.

This is a trial and error to see if fans are willing to go. While Pitino brought a lot of excitement, the school and Pitino under estimated how much of the fan base we have lost over the past 20 years (through death, disgust, relocation, apathy etc.) without substantially adding new ones. Also the existing fan base, the ones who actually attend games has become more mature and set in their ways regarding where and how they will watch games. Many won’t give UBS or Barclay’s a chance or have dismissed it after one experience. Granted, MSG (LIRR and Subway high parking fees) and CA (train and/or bus or free parking) might be more convenient, than UBS (LIRR, long walk or high parking fees) and Barclays (LIRR but less service/ actually and more subways lines depending on weekday or weekends that are closer to the arena but no parking). Not making the game at Barclays as part of our season tickets was a mistake.

82/83 team included Bernard Randolph, Tyrone Corbin and Kenny Patterson (Forest Hills High School). Dallas Comegys (he of the no call lane violation) who joined in the 83/84 season and Rod Strickland joined in the 85/86 season.
Tyrone Corbin is from my neck of the woods. He was lightly recruited, and a player DePaul primarily recruited as a project of sorts and to round out their roster. He was obviously a "miss" for the Gamecocks and Clemson.

A quick story about Corbin's earlier times at DePaul and being in Chicago. He only brought a "light" jacket and a "heavy coat" which was more conducive to Southern or South Carolina winters. He said he soon found out that he needed a coat suited for Midwestern winters.

He's a real laid back and humble person.

Garland and Bradshaw were on the 78/79 team. I believe that was Mark Aguirre’s freshman year. They were a good backcourt
