Rick Pitino - Head Coach at St John’s University!!!

The last sentence seems to contradict the rest of the quote.
I agree about contradiction in RP statement . It doesn’t necessarily have to be 6 hoot flight , round trip , if you broke it down in a logical progression .

For Example , play DePaul on a Monday night in Chicago , Wednesday night in Omaha vs Creighton and Saturday night in Spokane vs Gonzaga . Then fly home and no game until following Saturday . Only 6 hour flight one way .

Why don’t we just forfeit the last two games and fly home after the DePaul game. Why would you want to play 3 BE road games In basically 5 days? 🤪

I can't see the West Coast Conference agreeing to retain all Gonzaga's teams, without the basketball. It just doesn't fit geographically for all of Gonzaga's teams to be playing in the Big East, even if there were east and west divisions.

You can’t play a sport (say Men’s Basketball) in a different conference than you belong to if your conference supports that sport. Gonzaga can go independent in that sport like ND and UConn in football but can’t join another conference for basketball only.

In the WCC, Gonzaga gets a bye right into the conference semis, in Las Vegas, and they win the championship game vs Saint Mary's three out of four years. They are ranked in the top ten or top twenty every year. They always get a high seed, which almost guarantees a spot in the Sweet Sixteen. In the past ten years, they have had two shots in the NCAA championship game.
The downside of the WCC is the lack of competitive co-members. Zags compensate for that by playing a very challenging OOC schedule, playing Games in Seattle, Las Vegas and other big market sites. Money is the obvious motivation for changing the status quo, but they would be giving up some things, too.
