Rick Pitino - Head Coach at St John’s University!!!

"Temerity" to question? On a fuggin fan board? You think Pitino never second guesses himself?

This is a typical "post win" post where one or another internet cheerleader has to point out who patient or grateful everyone should be. We're 3-2 after playing good, but unranked, teams.

Pitino is a godsend, for sure. That doesn't mean we can't have the temerity to wonder about where this team will finish come March.
That is not what I was saying at all, but I see you enjoy twisting other’s words.

If you indeed are a “newsman” I don't think there is a shred of coincidence in this occurrence.

It will be interesting to see if Pitino redshirts Dunlap . Likely won’t get much PT this season . He didn’t look overjoyed all weekend , barely taking off his warm up for a cameo appearance .

With teams loaded with 5 th year players , some of them 25 years old , it’s difficult for evrn
4-5 Star 18 year olds to get much PT.

The System has contributed to that plus NIL .

It's interesting you mention his body language because he also looked mentally overheated versus Michigan also.

That’s good info you provided . It’s got to be hard for.a kid like Dunlap to not be playing . He was a 4 star Notre Dame recruit from California .

DeCommitted when Mike Brey left ND and obviously Pitino wanted him , along with Wilcher as true Freshman Recruits . Wilcher might be a little further along at this point . Plus he’s a PG , where we don’t have any depth .

Dunlap is a front court player where there is a Crowd a head of him .

All the reviews from pre season indicate Brady can shoot the rock but , still not playing for a kid who has always been a stand out player has to be tough . Neither he or Wilcher are use to sitting and watching .

I notice it’s not just these 2 kids but , the portal and NIL giving 24-25 year old players a chance to extend their BB Careers and get paid besides , isn’t conducive to the younger players getting PT.

I would guess RP is on top of it with these 2 Premier guys and their Dads to keep them focused on their future development . Let’s hope so . 4 -5 star players are what we are going to need with Rick at the helm .

We don’t want to lose them after making such a investment in them.

Thanks DK for picking up on these sometimes overlooked little tidbits that can ballon into a big something very quickly .

Dunlap seems like such a good kid; before the season videos posted of him and his teammates seemed fun and funny. I hope for the best for him.

I'm not going to defend every person's criticism after the Dayton loss, but I do think there is a fundamental difference between being worried about the state of the program and the team's resume. Speaking for myself, my concerns after Dayton were 100% about the resume since after Charleston, our OOC is pretty soft and doesn't leave much margin for error (West Virginia won't be very good this year). Beating Utah keeps us more than afloat.

I think if the schedule were 100% up to Pitino, we would've had another cupcake after Stony Brook before Michigan, and a MTE later in November, so the team can have more opportunity playing together in a live environment. Of course, this year he was limited in his flexibility.
This is exactly it. The consensus of this board was that we had to go 8-3 in the OOC to have a reasonable chance making the tournament.

We had two losses going into Utah same with games left against Holy Cross, Hofstra, Fordham, BC, and @ WV. We will be underdogs in WV and we can easily lose any of those other games.

If we fall to 7-4 there is very little chance of crawling out of that kind of hole.

Don’t shovel dirt on him just yet. As we saw last game, this is a Process.

it’s tough to see on TV but obvious in person. Dunlap is so overwhelmed physically bc of his position. There was a play in the Michigan game where his man just bodies him and gets an easy layup. Dunlap knew coming in he wasn’t going to play much. He’s not D1/Big East ready physically . Sorry. He will be a great player IMO. Just not yet.

Certainly seemed that way when he was signing... that his Dad knew Pitino's plan and were on the same page... I mean... it's obvious to anyone watching that this kid needs to be eating 5 meals/build up muscle if he wants to see the floor next yr

I’m hopeful with his dad’s background that he will understand that (it’s easier to say that before the season vs. in it), hang in there and be patient.

Pretty easy to see on TV as well. No position to guard and his physicality against fours is just as much an issue as his lack of quickness vs wings. Gonna have to work!

Who knows in a month, or two, or next year? But right now the absolute second Dunlap goes on the floor the other team clears out for whoever he is guarding and they score immediately. It's dramatically bad and you can't play a kid like that unless a game is fully decided.

Based on reports of his shooting ability he should have a fine career, and it would be great if it's all at SJU, but until his defense improves, he has to do his in-game learning mostly from the bench.

It will get easier as Pitino is able install all of his defensive principles and keep a shot-blocking center in the lane, switching 1-4. You get by Dunlap and you have a 7 foot center waiting for you.

That written, he still has to gain serious muscle and foot speed. We all knew the drill. The absurd length he has will be helpful on defense.
