I believe the rule is you have to play in 30% or less of the season to qualify.Didn’t they both play already? Would they still be eligible for that?

That’s usually for injuries tho, not for a player you got for minutes early on and then decide he’s not ready. Maybe the rule has changed.I believe the rule is you have to play in 30% or less of the season to qualify.

Good find NC I’m not sure how reliable that article is. It also says this, “Demystifying the Redshirt in College Basketball - 33rd Square
Hey there hoops fan! Have you ever wondered what it means when announcers refer to a "redshirt freshman" or a player "taking a redshirtwww.33rdsquare.com
Found this on redshirting rules. I think Pitino would have had to have asked permission for both of them before regular season started which he presumably did for at least Ayo.
Amase I read that to say they couldn’t compete once redshirted. Otherwise the part about not playing in more than 30% wouldn’t make sense. I seem to remember Balamou redshirting after playing minimal minutes in first few games but could be mistakenGood find NC I’m not sure how reliable that article is. It also says this, “
And seeing as Ayo played in them it wouldn’t seem like they received approval prior to the season.
- Redshirt players can‘t compete in any outside competition, including scrimmages or exhibition games.”

Agree it is a little confusing. That is the only recent article I could find on redshirt rules. Just can't imagine that CRP would be considering redshirting Ayo if it wasn't still feasible to do so.You could be right.
My impression was always the 30% rule applied to injuries or situations where the player wasn’t able to play, not simply because coach didn’t think they were ready.
But if they need to be approved prior to the season, and there are other contradicting rules to that ie, less then 30% and can’t compete in exhibitions, then I think there has to be different sceneries for injury and non injury redshirts. Wouldn’t make much sense to have to 1. get it approved prior, and 2. be able to play them for first 25% of season.
Sounds about rightI sat next to two beat writers at dinner on Saturday night and one said at the end of the year, Van Macon is going to leave. He was just a bridge from the last coaching group to this one.
Why did he need a bridge between teams. When he completely changed the roster.Sounds about right
"Temerity" to question? On a fuggin fan board? You think Pitino never second guesses himself?Very reminiscent of Pitino’s first 30 days when he struck out on 1 or 2 recruits during the mass exodus. Some had the temerity to question what was going on. Still find that mind blowing.
Fast forward 4 games in and people again were questioning Rick Pitino. As if they knew better. As if they would just snap their fingers and integrate certain players better and faster than he would. As if he doesn’t deserve our patience and gratitude for coming here and pulling a sunken ship out from the depths of the Atlantic.
It’s not to say negativity isn’t warranted. I probably have 100 negative thoughts go through my head in the midst of a game. Big picture is a completely different story though and it’s not the same song and dance we’ve had to endure.
Let’s not become one of those insufferable fanbases. Let’s not forget where we came from. Let’s enjoy who and what we have here patrolling our sidelines. GREATNESS.
Agree. Pitino is the best thing that could have possibly happened to our program. But no need to get all North Korea with the censorship on this site."Temerity" to question? On a fuggin fan board? You think Pitino never second guesses himself?
This is a typical "post win" post where one or another internet cheerleader has to point out who patient or grateful everyone should be. We're 3-2 after playing good, but unranked, teams.
Pitino is a godsend, for sure. That doesn't mean we can't have the temerity to wonder about where this team will finish come March.
It’s our job, as fans, to evaluate the team and voice our opinions."Temerity" to question? On a fuggin fan board? You think Pitino never second guesses himself?

would go with- they both have "relatively high floors".I was expecting both Cruz and Ayo to be redshirted since they both have relatively high ceilings. It also gives them more options in two years.
