Rick Pitino - Head Coach at St John’s University!!!

That’s because Gen Z thinks anything longer than a 15 clip is too long and takes time away from any of their other 37 social media platforms and accounts.

Now, get off my lawn…

Very true, which is exactly why we need to win first so they start posting about it on their 37 social media accounts. People tend to show their "perfect" lives on social media and the Johnnies have been far from perfect. Pitino is right about establishing a culture of winning as it impacts everyone from the players to the fans.

If it makes anyone feel better, I was at the Tennessee/Tennessee Tech game last night and the arena was maybe half full (almost no one in the higher sections). The only clear students there were in each student section behind the basket. Obviously an awesome experience to go to, but it shows that even a top 10 team in the country in Knoxville on a Monday night can't draw a sell out.
Do you live in Knoxville? Beautiful area.

Agree completely. Perhaps if they spent less time on Face Book and more time interacting with others they wouldn’t be as socially awkward as many are. Some of my best memories from St. John’s was going to games with a bunch of friends and then going out afterwards either to celebrate a victory or drown our sorrow over a loss. 😂👍 Also met allot of fine young ladies while doing as such. 😉

Doesn’t UT’s arena hold like 24,000 though? So 12,000 for a cupcake opponent ain’t too bad.

Yeah, a shave over 21k.

They sold 80% of the tickets (I'm assuming a bunch of season ticket holders didn't show). I don't think it was bad per se, but I do think sometimes we can be a little harsh about our own fans showing up to things so I figured it would be an interesting perspective. I do think the students probably made up less than 25% of the crowd last night, which was surprising to me.

Thinking young kids (anyone under 30) are on facebook sold you out as a grandparent. LOL

I have my own theories about these youngsters that are in my grandkids age brackets . They are a generation that never learned to go outside and play anything . Baseball , Basket ball , Foot Bsll, etc . Plus , unless it adult organized they never had the impetus to go out to their local ball field and play pick up games . My generation played more pick up games with kids in the neighborhood than they did in Little League or CYO , etc .

I drive past the Athletic facilities in my Town or any town and see empty BB Courts , empty ball
Fields and , not even kids throwing around a football .

I just don’t understand it .

In Foster Park in Flatbush in the 60's and 70's sometimes you have to wait for a court to open up and back then they had at least 12 metal baskets, 6 full courts. Recall in cold weather bringing a shovel to get the snow off the court and playing anyway. You'd never see those things today. [WHY IN MY DAY.....;):):ROFLMAO:]

Not to mention the cement courts we had to play on which for me resulted in total knee replacement on one knee and arthroscopic surgery on both. But hey, I’m still walking but my dunk game has taken a hit. 😂

Shoveling snow off the court? Hell, when it snow alot, that was tackle football conditions. Even on concrete. In the summer you always saw 5 on 5 half court games on atleast 2 of the 4.
Now you might see a few just shooting the ball but no games. The kids just rather bs now.

On memorial day we use to have keg softball games and a bbq, the cops never came. Now you don't see it. Sad in a way but oh well.

In early January of 1988 (as a 9th grader), we had a winter storm that produced a brief period of freezing rain, sleet, snow, sleet, and more snow (in that order). Perfect compact, so to speak for a winter storm. The storm lasted about 10 hours. A couple days it never got above freezing, and it barely got above freezing for a handful of other days. We were outta school for a week as that crap wouldn't thoroughly melt for anything.

Anyway, we routinely played touched football in the street (particularly on the street where I resided, as it is a fairly long cul-de-sac). We played a day after the storm and there was a time or two where "hitting in the street" took place.

I live in a city so it's hard to compare neighborhood games. But I live a block from a park. The soccer field, deck hockey rink and cement basketball courts are always pretty active past sundown, though many adults playing, not just kids. The baseball fields not so much.

My childhood was like yours but it was in the exburbs so things were easier there. Playing in the street was de rigueur or you raised eyebrows. Now if you're not good enough to play for club and school by age 14 you seem to just find other things to do. We kept both kids in organized sports each season through middle school. I pressed my son into playing for the golf team in HS, for selfish reasons for both of us, and he did for a couple years before he got bored. My daughter played club soccer and volleyball for school and club. She's the sportier of the two and is still playing softball and kickball for fun in her late 20's My son plays airsoft. In primary school they were in after school programs until dinner.

But my post was more tongue in cheek to someone mentioning facebook and kids in the same sentence. So ten years ago. Now it's all Insta and Tiktok. Even Snapchat's no longer cool.
