QUEENS, N.Y. (Sept. 15, 2023) –
The Red Storm men’s basketball program will welcome back St. John’s Hall of Famer and NBA veteran Mark Jackson who will serve as a special guest speaker at “An Evening with St. John’s Basketball,” on Sept. 28 at 583 PARK AVENUE.

Great choice considering Mark knows Rick as well as anyone.

They were both NBA rookies in 1988. Rick put all his faith into Mark and was rewarded.

Rick turned Mark into NBA Rookie of the Year and set the stage for Mark’s lengthy NBA Career .

Mark had a lot of game , despite the constant refrain that he wasn’t fast . RP wasn’t influenced by that and knew Mark had a lot of ability to be a dynamic PG in the pros .

He’s truly a St John’s HOF .

Given all season tickets (besides Bronze) are sold out, does anyone know how that compares to prior years? Have any/all tiers sold out in recent years?

You win a prize. Great to have him back in the fold.

Mark was 1000% approval of RP hird for obvious reasons outlined by Panther.

Which new coaching staff has impressed you most during its first few months on the recruiting trail?

"Rick Pitino is the obvious choice here, but I feel like going with one of the best college basketball coaches of all time is a bit of a cop-out."

Great piece by Trilly D on transfer portal ingredients. Rick was one of the best in business adapting to the college three point implementation way back when & now clearly has embraced portal/NIL era spending $ strategically to make $. His overseas contacts will serve us well also.

How Rick Pitino rebuilt the Red Storm roster in six monthsWhen Rick Pitino took over as the head coach of the St. John's men's basketball team in March, he made one thing very clear. "A lot of players probably won't be back on this team." He wasn't kidding.

Newsday just posted today although the material about Jenkins is dated.
All this just shows you how much coaching experience and pedigree matters. Hindsight is 20-20 but the administration was wasting its time hiring prior coaches with none of the above and hoping for a miracle. I am not a season ticket holder but will be going to every MSG game I can attend this year.
