Rick’s Targets

RP going after another big man makes me believe Zuny is going to be playing the 4 a whole lot. Or is he going after a 4?

So after 2 1/2 months Pitino still hasn’t filled the third big man role on the team? My God what has Pitino been doing all this time? Chop, chop!

These really are good times. Will be fun to watch how he brings this team together. Adding all these players really is like a science project. Of course, he’s the Coach you want doing it. It was all hard to imagine a couple of months ago but he really is going to have to manage player expectations. Truly can’t wait to see the end product.

Backup center
I think probably more like a Joel replacement-caliber kid rather than just a backup center (not talking all big-east like Joel). We will be without centers after Joel leaves. Pretty sure Pitino will still shoot for some real talent at the spot. He must have a good idea what he’s looking at as he was specific to overseas.

The way it was put to me was “The role is backup center, but this doesn't mean it is a player who can't play”

So I agree. It’d be a huge addition to the roster makeup, and puts a lot less pressure on Zuby to be impactful day 1 + gives us flexibility for different lineups. Soriano will have to be healthy and be All-Big East caliber for us to compete in the top half regardless, but it’ll be nice to have him shoulder less

I figured as such. Would think Pitino has little utility for adding players at this point who couldn’t give us solid minutes somewhere.

Chatter out there about big from Portugal being considered, no clue on details or legitimacy

As much fun as it was when Sir'Dom manned the middle on occasion... it's not ideal vs BE opponents.

I see only 3 guys with the capability to serve time at the 5: Joel (Duh) / Zuby (lucky we snagged him) / Slaz (5-out on offense and gotta be Zone on D)....

Very happy to hear Rick is reading the board and is taking our expert advice. Hopefully it matriculates.

Graduating in 1962 from SJU and just celebrating my eighty third birthday puts me in the old geezer class and if that doesn’t having gone to MSG in Dec 1953 to see SJU play Santa Clara certainly does.
One benefit of that and growing up in Queens gave me a fifteen minute train ride to MSG for a nickel and seeing the Knicks play the Minneapolis Lakers with George Mikan on a Tuesday for fifty cents and the next night to see the Rangers play Montreal with both Richards, Geoffrion,Beliveau, Plante, Harvey etc. for forty cents with your GO card.
There are "geezer" benefits I'd hate to give up. Giants baseball fan...Polo Grounds for Mets...Ebbets Field where I saw Robinson, Hodges, Reese play in person...six day bike races in MSG...Gordie Howe in his prime...Lapchick coaching...Princeton's Bill Bradley lighting up the garden at the Holiday Festival...SJU winning it all that year against number 1 Michigan...the list goes on. Graduated SJU in January '70...after drinking up my GI Bill money. I still have friends from back then.
