Rick’s Targets

Basically everyone was telling you to let it play out and see what the final roster looked like before bashing. You and a couple of other posters couldn't comprehend that. We now have a very good roster with 1 to go. Enjoy it.
For all those that were impatient and thought RP was taking too long to replenish the roster-if anything he may have been a wee bit hasty as with the quality of a lot of late portal additions we may have done even better.

You forgot our coach. The one you’ve said countless times is the best guy to have, yet still questioned his approach over and over. Which is completely fine by the way, but to continually question others for giving him so leeway, only to be proven wrong, and now pretending like others are making it up, does seem below you.
Exactly! Claiming no one was offering opinions other than "Pitino is good" is a blatant lie. Numerous posters (myself, you, and several others) were offering legitimate opinions and not merely spouting "trust in Rick" or any other Pitino slogan.

I do not understand. Are you severely slighting Pitino, by saying in a roundabout way that he is not on the same level as Coach K., Wright, and Wooden’s ghost?
No
He already got that treatment so he is a given.
-That response to Mase post as well.

I have said this countless times, I wouldn’t want any other coach outside of maybe Jay Wright just because of age factor.

I don’t trust anyone to be successful at ST John’s. I don’t trust them.

I know was novice but did anyone see the hardest working basketball player coming here and mailing it in?

And I have no idea what the Missouri, Arkansas, Tulsa and UAB fan bases think but did you think Anderson would be as bad as he was? On outside looking in I liked his previous teams.

Pitino and ST John’s to me was Immovable force meets unstoppable object. And I was concerned that the unstoppable object was going to win.

Wasn’t your normal roster building. If works maybe everyone will try?

I’d absolutely love Grant Nelson, though don’t know how serious of a look we will get. I’d also love Supreme Cook. Wondering if he has 2 years eligibility due to the covid stuff or not? I don’t want too many 1-year players on our roster, but then again, it seems obvious at this point that Rick and Co. can replace them quickly and with very good talent.
This kid has Gonzaga tattooed on his back

The claim wasn't that no one was offering that opinion, just some, but there were and still are some who don't know if the ball has air or feathers in it, their belief in RF and STJ was and is unconditional. For that type of poster the statement is still valid.

Even the cynics, and maybe I was considered one of them - you tell me, believed that RP would turn the program around but maybe had too high expectations. I now readily admit that I did. But there will be a competitive team on the court next year so I have been converted.

However, IMHO, there are still players on the roster that I'm not sure can play significant minutes in the BE but they are so far down the depth chart now that it doesn't matter. They'll either prove me wrong or enter the portal next spring without really impacting the results of the 23/24 team.

It wouldn't shock me if one of commitments decommits because the last recruit may mean diminished playing time for them.
Amazingly, the first 8 guys can easily score some points and we couldn't say that about our first five last season.
Let's see how long it takes for the defense to gel.

You're speaking from your point of view, but I was stating what WASJU said about posters today. He claimed no one was offering opinions other than "Pitino is good" when that is blatantly false.

Hopefully, that's enough of this foolishness. It's a good day, and it's been a good three weeks. Actually, it's been all good since Pitino was named the head coach. Later today, I'm going out to celebrate one of my childhood friends' 50th birthday with dinner, a couple brewskis, and a Knicks win (he and I root for the Knicks, although he's a bigger fan than I).

If one or two recommit, that could just a plus which the staff could use to recruit over.

There will definitely be future attempts to duplicate what Pitino is accomplishing. Great coaches used to be able to attract highly rated high school recruits and mold them into a successful team in a couple of years.
Now with the transfer portal a college could hire a coach like Jay Wright next January and Jay could assemble a team capable of competing for a national championship his first season.

Interesting take. I feel like Jay (and K and Uncle Roy) are out of the game because they saw they were losing their ability to identify and develop their kind of kids from HS over the course of a 3-4 year college career into consistent national title contenders. I'm not saying they ran away from this brave new world, just that they didn't endorse it nor want to participate in it.

For the most part most on here would applaud if Pitino took a dump in their dining room.
If that is not you that’s great.
See I always thought 2nd guessing is what wives do. If anyone on here is a wife I apologize. I was simply first guessing how again my favorite coach was building the roster. Mostly my humor is lost on most here and basically most overreacted to anything other than Rick is great.

And that is an absolute fact because people are still coming at me after I had said I would be satisfied with Dingle and expressed optimism over Dingle signing.

Honestly I think people are upset I have been mollified, because without the bad guy they are afraid this place will be boring.

I've been struggling with a personal loss, so I haven't posted recently.
I have 'cheated' and checked the Board often to distract me, but then had second thoughts with all the griping. Lol.
But, I want to thank all those who offered their prayers and condolences to me and my family.
I appreciate it very much.
Those gestures have convinced me, that while this is a crazy Board of fanatics, we are a 'family'.
Thank you again all.
And, yes, we've had great recruiting news the past week and quite the fabulous blast today.
I won't post as frequently as I had been for awhile, but please consider me part of this St. John's 'family'.

Can’t be understated how nice it is to see the program pull a transfer from UPenn along with a high school recruit previously committed to Notre Dame.

Shows you what a great coach will do instantly to the profile of a university. Not to say this never happened before, but it’s already prevalent and opens up a whole new crop of players to recruit here. Bravo!

I haven’t posted in a while, since I forgot my password to log in, but the season was such an atrocity I wished it could have been simulated. The personal back and forth messaging need to stay in the DMs, they derail great conversations, and solid points are often missed or overlooked.

I haven’t been this excited as a St John’s fan in a very long time. I think the Harrison, Harkless, Sampson, Pointer class had me very hyped but we have never had the coach, where we can look to have an edge going into any game. Dingle was such an amazing pick up. You look at the highlights and he has an entire bag of moves in his arsenal and can kill you from 3, mid range or take you to the basket.

The last scholarship I want to go to Zuby. Give me a Texas kid with a chip on his shoulder, after being over recruited. He has the size and athleticism we need for the 4, and he is visiting us. I think he fits well. New York has a big Nigerian community, I believe his parents are from there, maybe that helps slightly. Either way, I’m very excited with how things have developed with an amazing coach.

Think I speak for all of us in wishing you the best during this difficult time. Prayers for your situation and loss. 😇
