Rick’s Targets

I almost feel like we need two threads now.

Thread 1 - News about Rick's Targets that are still being recruited.

Thread 2 - B****ing and Moaning about losing Storr, Posh, Wusu, Jones and Gardner, while RP is only getting mid-major talent in return so far.

Don't get me wrong. I get it. I would have loved the 5 above to stay. I don't have details to why they didn't, but that's not fixable and since we are trusting the HoF coach, I am just moving on.

I have some worry in the back of my mind that we haven't landed a big fish yet, but again, I have to push that off, because I don't know all the reeasons why we haven't and what I would see, if I were a recruit and a parent of a recruit, was an organization that was in total disarray based on most social media feedback. Despite a HoF coach, that would make me hesitate. RP still has to build that culture. RP only had 3 players left w/Be experience and is bringing in a bunch of mid-major talent. Admittedly it is good talent from what I can tell, but it would still leave me with questions.

I feel like 90% of this thread has turned into nothing more than a sky-is-falling discussion, rather than actual commentary of targets.

Well 95% of the forum is the sky-is-falling-ers. So at least 5% got flipped from the doom and gloomers...

No issue. You say you have inside info that our core players engaged in some kind of nefarious conduct that warranted their being kicked off the team and I’ll take you at your word. You just haven’t provided any details or evidence and yet a bunch of people liked your post that was short on facts and heavy on innuendo.

The best “evidence” guys like Logen can come up with is that the players didn’t seem engaged in the huddle, we played disorganized ball under Anderson, we have a “losing culture” and there were a few bad apples over the years. Hardly a reason to jettison the whole team.

As for creating a winning culture, we received a commitment from a kid from VMI, one of the worst programs in D-1 basketball. We’re reaching out to an NC St. kid who played at four schools in four years. Is that kid really more of a “winner” than Stanley? And our top target right now played at Niagara, hardly a powerhouse.

The idea that bc a kid was recruited by Anderson he’s bad for the culture seems pretty weak.

Now Eric, maybe you know something more, but I promise you that most of the dozen or so posters who liked your post know nothing more than what Logen wrote and some vague innuendo they read on the internet. I think that’s weak sauce.
I hear ya. And yes I do have some inside info on things that went on. But it is totally not my place to say who and what. I don't mind saying that things went on and I guess pitino took this path he chose regarding those things. His team. His decision. Thats what I am referring to when I post that.

Now I can understand people saying come on and spill the beans. But I also hope people understand that is not my place nor do I feel comfortable exposing that. I respect my contact/s too much but still at the same time at least try to shed a little light to those who may not have any clues about it and say how couldn't pitino keep these guys etc.

As for players he is taking on etc, I have no idea about fit, abilities in his system and all that. I'll leave that up to the coach and hope he is building us a very nice team. Believe me, I am as anxious as anyone regarding the construction of the team and would love as many stars next to these guys. But again, at the same time I think he knows what he is doing and look forward to seeing the final product hopefully soon.

I have no idea what happened behind the scenes but do feel the Pitino could have kept a few kids on a short leash. I also feel that he thought he could do better and to date that hasn’t happened. Still have some time to land the big fish.

Can we just create a separate thread for arguing about last season's team and the departures and keep this thread focused on our targets for the upcoming season? Jeez.
Hate when that happens and apologize myself as I responded with my post. Didn't realize the thread. Sorry.

Pitino made the changes he thought were best for his team. I would think that he had input from Van on the personnel from last year’s team. Trust Pitino, trust the process.

Appreciate the post and totally respect that you don’t want to disclose more.

I understand the fan loyalty to the departed players from those here that liked the way they played . But , realistically they really didn’t play that well in their tenure here . Did they ?

No their accumulated records in the BE Conference were underwhelming . Last year a lofty 8 th place finish .

Blaming Pitino for a wholesale Roster change is unfair . Fr Shanley and Cragg were very much in the Group that decided a Roster change was necessary . Obviously related to off court , class room issues , tutors , etc .

Some here might know what those issues were that necessitated the Roster overhaul . We must assume they were of a serious nature and not done arbitrarily .
Essentially it wasn’t all Rick making these decisions . Those blaming him are off base and uninformed .

As for the departed players , let’s get serious . Don’t pump up all the departed as if they were BB super stars . They weren’t and several of them could be classified as mid Major players fortunate to play in tbe BE . Nywie , Pinzon , Stanley , Wusu , etc .are in that category .
King might be different if you consider Tulane a high ranked Program . It’s debatable . Storr is going to Wisconsin , closer to his home and no one quibbles he’s a talented 4 star player . It was his decision to leave . And , there is opinion he was going to leave anyway , if CMA was still the Coach.

Posh , was also in that category . Given a chance to stay and chose not to.

As for the incoming players , it’s disappointing that a few here are already categorizing them as misfit toys not capable of playing in the BE . That is absolute BS .

Alleyne is coming from the National Champions . He got a lot of PT there and was more than decent Contributor . So what if he was 6 , 7 or 8 th man for them . He played a lot .

It’s doubtful if any of the departed players , excluding Posh and Storr , would even make the UCONN Team . And , neither of them would have gotten a lot of PT .

Jenkins has more than received enough of a summary that he is quite capable of being a BE player . There is little doubt about him . So don’t be so quick to dismiss any of these incoming players as being less than what left . It doesn’t hold water .

You are just showing off now with your paragraph prowess.

There's no definitive proof whether Pitino hasn't done any better because 1) games has yet to be played and 2) the roster isn't set.

New coach gets to pick his guys. It’s that simple. These are all professionals now.

I don’t think there are many sky-is-falling types, but there is no tolerance for any doubt by some — which is odd considering how poorly our facilities and other elements stack up to our direct competition for recruits.

It seems more than fair to think Pitino may have underestimated how much harder it would be to get top talent here than Louisville. In fact, I think that is most likely.

I am shocked at the lack of high end recruits, but I also think Pitino is a monster who will adapt like he always does. The one thing about this roster that intrigues me is the level of experience. We could potentially be starting five 5th-year seniors. That’s just absurd and it could mitigate the lack of overall talent on paper. Alleyne, for example, will have 160 games played and perhaps over 120 starts by March! Think about that. He is one of the most experienced players to ever play in college.
