Ricardo Gathers, PF - BAYLOR

I believe a lot of these guys are going to wait to see how the realignment shakes out. If the big east loses more power basketball schools we may not be able to recruit at the level we did this past year going forward.

What`s the #1 reason a top HS kid picks a school to play at? The best possoble staff to help him improve and succeed at the next level, atleast that would be my #1 reason. SJU has a TOP staff.
Realignment wouldn`t bother me, SJU could still be great and win a NC in the 4 years that you`re in college.

I cant see reallignment being an issue for any reason. Schools like Memphis, Xavier, and Gonzaga seem to get top flight talent and are not in BCS conferences. We have NYC, tradition, and a great staff. Not to mention some pretty good players right now. should be enticing to almost any recruit.

I agree! Gonzaga went to its first sweet sixteen in 1999. They have gone to FIVE since. Perennial Big East power and backstabbing MOF Syracuse has been to..........FIVE since 1999!

It is all about the staff you have and not the conference. Without coach rat face and Roy good old boy Williams the ACC would be a toss up every year.....

I don't like the comparisons with gonzaga. You put them in the BE or ACC and see how well they fair in the ncaa's after that type of grinding league and schedule.....thats if they would even make it. in terms of recruiting, gonzaga has had 4 top 100 recruits since 2005. we had more than that last year. i personally dont think realignment will hurt the johnnies though. playing on the biggest stage in the world while your in college and almost a pro staff to help you ratchet up your game to the next level will be enough to sell it

My room mate from college is a sports anchor in Lafayette, LA, and he did confirm the rumors. He said that his coach is a friend of Lavin's which is why he committed originally so hopefully the friendship is strong enough to have him come to New York.  He would probably have the ability to start on the team next year due to the team's lack of height.

No offense to you nor your friend, but I would expect him to confirm the rumors. Actually, confirmation of a rumor doesn't necessarily make it true. Although, there can, at times, be fire where there is smoke.... I've also learned that the grape vine can be quite juicy. It doesn't take much for things to spread like wildfire (whether, it's true or not).

Hopefully, Gathers is still secure in his commitment and not waver. We have 11 more days before putting this rumor to bed.

I have non doubt those snakes from the USC of the south are trying to lure Gathers back. I don't think it will happen.

I usually do not go this route, but I wouldn't doubt they are trying to lure him in ways that violates NCAA rules.

Maybe conference plays a small part in recruiting but however realignment shakes out we still will have a strong conf and great schedule so that we should be able to continue to recruit at the same high level that we have recently be recruiting at.

I don't trust LSU. I've heard too many bad things about their football recruiting to not worry at least a little. I still thinks Gathers will stay ours.

So Gonzaga getting to the Sweet Sixteen as many times as Syracuse in the past 12 years is not significant? They did it with top notch coaching, which was my point. They play a strong schedule and as far as playing in the Big East........check St. John's last game last year! LOL!

Wow, that must mean Arizona is going to be terrible this year since their last loss was to a division 2 school. Look at the zags record vs top 25 over the last 10 years...18 wins 37 losses. They wouldnt even be making it to the tournament is my point to have their little Cinderella runs if they actually played in the big east or acc. the grind of these high major conferences for 4 months takes a toll by the time march comes around.

I never mentioned Arizona.....but maybe they are over-ranked, now that you mention them.
So little Gonzaga won 1 out of 3 games it has played against top 25 teams? Not bad in my book!
So little Gonzaga has played top 25 teams 55 times in ten years? Sounds like a strong schedule to me......I think I stated that!
I do not know if they would have made it to the tournament if they were in the Big East. I do not have your clairvoyant ability. But maybe, just maybe, being in the Big East would have also attracted more top recruits? Maybe they would have been as strong as little Villanova.....oh, sorry Otis, Nova likely would have tried to block Gonzaga! LOL!

With Kaleb Tarczewski's pledge to attend Arizona next year, they have moved to the top spot over Indiana for 2012 recruits. BTW, he's a 7'0" center. No wonder Miller didn't jump to Maryland. Don't forget he has freshmen guards, Turner and Johnson this year.
