Ricardo Gathers, PF - BAYLOR

 http://www.zagsblog.com/2011/12/28/ricardo-gathers-talks-recruiting/

After this video, him calling Duke and Kansas "Programs" always top 10 and always producing players to the next level. I think we have a slim to none chance of getting him back.

Hope Lavin continues to get healthy and has some tricks up his sleeve.

While St J doesn't have the track record of sending players to NBA coach Lavin does and that is what is impt. It's the coach not the school that prepares one for the pros.

Update on Gathers
St. John's decommit PF Ricardo Gathers (Laplace, La./Riverside Academy) has a long list of suitors -- LSU, St. John's, Baylor, Duke, Florida, NC State and Cal -- and a tough decision ahead. All prospects want to make the right decision, but there is no "perfect" place. And after a long conversation with him about his recruiting process, it is easy to see he is confused about his choices and I believe it may be affecting his approach, preparation and ultimately his play on the court.

Yes, he is scoring inside, displaying some monster dunks, blocknig shots and rebounding with a passion -- but he is just not himself on a consistent basis.

He seems confused, huh? There could be a very, good reason for his confusion.

He played better when he was committed to SJU.  ;)

@jeffborzello: Ricardo Gathers said Baylor, St. John's, Florida and NC State are his favorites right now.

Good news. I think we'll beat that group out.

The top five for Gathers are Duke, Florida, Baylor, N.C, State, and St. John's. Listed those as favorites, and he plans to visit all five

Baylor is at the top of the rankings right now; Florida is always dangerous; NC State has a nice group coming in next year. All are dangerous. I don't really see Duke as a good fit but they can get almost anybody they want.

There's a chance he wouldn't even start at Baylor next year with J'Mison Morgan coming back and Isaiah Austin coming in. If Patric Young leaves for the NBA Florida is going to be badly in need of a post player just like us, they could be turning the heat up on Gathers.  If Duke really has turned their interest away from Gathers and towards Amile Jefferson, gut feeling would be it comes down to us and Florida.

Not sure how true this is....

Always best to take the home town team out of the race, because then the doors are wide open.

During the broadcast of this afternoon's game, the play by play guy stated that St John's has signed two players for next year - Darrick Wood and Ricardo Gathers

Shouldn't these guys be provided with correct and current information to share with their audience?

Per NBE Basketball....

Ricardo Gathers (Riverside Academy 2012) – Gathers listed Baylor, NC State, St. John’s and Florida as his 4 favorites with LSU and California also heavily involved. He said that Kentucky coach John Calipari has been to see one of his games but hasn’t been in contact. Duke has offered but has only been in contact once during the season and stands clearly below his top 4. Gathers does plan to visit Duke along with NC State, Florida and Baylor.

FWIW... this quote was posted on ZAGS via Five-Star Bball. Baron also lending his thoughts at the end.

"They got a lot of work to do right now," Gathers told FiveStarBasketball.com. "But they are missing a lot of players right now. We'll see who goes there next year and hopefully, I'm one of them but if not, best of luck to them."

I read that on Zags also. I think this quote says two things. First recruits know that this is a tough yer for us, that we are shorthanded and second that recruits are very excited to come here and play and help build a championship caliber team. Also in the same article nice quotes by Sheppard.

Note to Gathers: If you want to come I am pretty confident we would welcome you with open arms.
