Revamped Big East

"Bylaws, schmylaws!" - Chuck Neinas
According to Mike Casazza and Jared Hunt of the Charleston (WV) Daily Mail, the Big East and West Virginia have reached a conditional settlement that would end their competing lawsuits and send West Virginia to the Big 12 in 2012. The settlement is for a total of $20 million, with West Virginia paying $11 million and the Big 12 Conference paying the other $9 million.

The deal, however, is no longer dependent upon Boise State being able to leave the Mountain West Conference and play football in the Big East as West Virginia's replacement in 2012. According to Casazza and Hunt, the Big East will still try and possibly take Boise State in 2012, but either way will take the $20 million and use it however it sees fit. Apparently, prior to this agreement, the Big East was unwilling to settle without a replacement, but now is willing to settle and take the payout from West Virginia without necessarily having a 2012 replacement in hand.

Not having a replacement for 2012 obviously leaves many more questions about how the Big East will operate for the upcoming football season and what will be done for the seven remaining teams. It also means that we've officially written our last words about West Virginia football on Big East Coast Bias.

Heard the BE is close to offering Temple for football only to fill the schedule voids left by WV.
Temple said all sports or nothing.
Good for them.
Screw nova.

northeast: providence, uconn, STJ, seton hall
mid atlantic: villanova, georgetown, rutgers
south: smu, houston, ucf, usf
mid west: nd, marquette, cincy, depaul
southeast lville, memphis,

You play each team in your pod 2x to preserve rivalries. You would play three of the other pods, same 18 games we play now. Each team in a pod you would either play home or road. So you wouldn't play at gtown and nova in the garden. Clearly this system leaves room for temple(perfect fit in mid atlantic), and a need for 2 teams in southeast, might as well let pitino pick the teams he wants to play since it seems he's picking the teams anyway. You can easily plug in Xavier if Cincy leaves. Ideas for southeast, Marshall(doesn't fit what league is doing as far as big markets), Southern Miss(right outside top 25 right now, possible football), VCU(Nice market, and very strong in hoops, big school), FIU(big school, miami, better fit in south but might move smu and houston to southeast, obviously isiah would have to leave).

Love to hear some other ideas on schools and schedule fits.

Nova had no problem applying to the ACC! Since this year they are the biggest underachievers in the Big East and do not even play D1 football their position on Temple is bewildering!
The Big East and its brain trust better grab Temple before Louisville and/or Cincy try to bolt again for the B12!
I would offer up Nova or Rutgers for Temple at this point. We do not need RU in the NY area and Temple would more than make up for losing Nova to whomever:)

Nova fighting this is just absurd. Big east basketball would only be stronger by FAR with Temple and it would. Rest a great rivalry with Nova. Big East needs to overrule Nova on this one and I suspect they will. Big East is strengthened on both football and bball sides by Temple coming on board. Gotta get this done!

Wow, How do you split up Rutgers and Seton Hall? I would be very happy if the N'east pod played the Mid Atlantic pod every year.

Eastern school possibilities if/when Louisville leaves. East Carolina. BE not interested- feel their academcs aren't that good. So. Mississippi or Marshall - small TV markets. FIU - BE already has two schools in Florida. Tulane, Toledo, Tulsa - possible. Okay, calling Tulane and Tulsa Eastern schools is a stretch ... Va. Commonwealth - do they have an upper divisio fb team- BE would be looking at all-sports schools. UMASS - possibly a few years down the line if they can establish a successful football program.

Okay, now for what should be the #1 choice - Temple. Yes, Nova should give up their fight against Temple but remember they alone cannot block any school. The BE requires 3/4's of schools to vote in favor of admittance. According to sources Temple came up for a vote in October. Ten schools needed to vote yes for Temple to be admitted. The final vote was 7-6. Villanova, USF, Marquette, DePaul, Georgetown and, yes, St John's voted no. Okay, say "screw Nova" but to date it is the non-football schools that have kept Temple out. The blame deserves to be spread around.

Temple to BE by Friday, sources with knowledge confirm.
Always wanted to use that term.
All sports by the way.
Screw nova.

Temple and Memphis for Cuse and Pitt is not a bad trade. Finally a good job by the Big East Commisioner.

Good job by Pitino for nagging and nagging until he got his way. The commissioner is clueless.

Heard it was all about football scheduling.
With WV's early exit, FB teams needed an extra game in a hurry.
Good for Temple, good for hoops.
Screw football anyway.
This isn't Alabama.

Fantastic move. IMO, big east will be stronger in football than before but more importantly won't lose a step in basketball. Can't wait til Cuse gets to the ACC and their near 1000 win coach retires.

syracuse will morph into boston college once boeheim retires. a few more quality basketball teams with divisions will help put this league back on top.

Assuming it is true Temple would be a nice pickup. But neither are Syracuse. Not even close. And except for this year neither are Pitt either.

Did you know I love Temple?
