Recruits for next year?

Lavin's recruiting has been so good that it's basically above reproach, but this season is baffling me. But I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on recruiting.

.......... If Mr.Lavin has done such a great job recruiting [your term: "beyond reproach"] during each of his 4 years at StJohns then please explain why StJohns (a) came in 5th place in the Big East regular season, (b) failed to qualify for the NCAA Tournament, (c) lost first round in the NIT, (d) has reportedly made 14 scholarship offers during the 2014 recruiting cycle but has failed to secure any recruits, and (e) has failed to secure any recruits for the 2015 cycle despite the fact many schools have already secured one or more quality players for the 2015 cycle?

(a) they tied for 3rd place.
(b) their record wasn't good enough.
(c) they were outscored.
(d) they would't give Whitehead's coach a job.

+1
And the notion that we actually recruited 14 players from this class is laughable.
Besides McCullough and Whitehead who else did they even go to watch play?
Lavin has his faults but he didn't go 0-14 with recruits this year. He de emphasized this class and concentrated on 2015, which I think is a mistake. But he didn't go 0-14. He's too good of a recruiter for that to happen

Agree with you. Alot of recruiting can be perception but it felt like we fell behind in 2014 and never caught up. Late in the 2013 class, Jordan seemed to be really the only target. Maybe we did, but it seemed like we should of been working the 2014 class much harder so that we could get a little bit of a head start. I may be way off base here but its what it felt like. That said, still think there will be plenty of options available to put together a good 2014 class

Paultz - gun to your head, Chukwu or Adonis as a four year guy?

I've only seen Chukwu on a couple of highlights, but I've seen De La Rosa play. Not sure how far off Chukwu's offensive game is at the moment. But De La Rosa has a decent, offensive game now. De La Rosa has a nice touch from about 12'-15'.

I'm not saying, De La Rosa will end up being the same player, but with some work De La Rosa may can mimic Roy Hibbert (who was 'under the radar' in HS).

From last night's Fairfield Prep's loss in finals by three points which I did not attend.

Chukwu finished with a triple double, recording 21 points, 17 rebounds and 12 blocks with 17 of his 21 points coming in the first half.

ADL is not close to the same level! He is a project and hopefully Lavin does not screw up on the Diallo recruiting.

He stuffed the stat sheet.

Apologies if this has already been addressed, but is there a reason SJU has not been involved with the kid from Cardinal Hayes?

I guess you mean Nathaniel.

He is actively being pursued by GW, Davidson and Fordham.

He visited Seton Hall (who is totally out working us on the recruiting trail) this weekend. They extended an offer yesterday.

Also, don't forget, he is a senior now. I don't think we are interested in 2014 recruits.

From a couple days ago, list St Johns as one of the many schools after him. Go get him Lav!

Anyone know what's happening with Mason from Niagara?

Running through streets of Niagara pursued by Marillac. :)

It is upsetting to think we have 2 huge holes to fill and the staff took the year off. Now our recruiting thread is about a project and pipe dreams about 5th year players.

Not being confrontational at all 72 but saying the staff took a year off is a very strong statement.
May I ask what is the basis for such statement ?

That the baseball season has started and we don't have any verbal commitments, our name is not listed with any top 100 recruits (Cunningham is not coming here), and our best prospect is probably the fourth best player on his CTK team.

Andrew I am aware of same but that doesn't mean the staff took the year off in terms of recruiting. It could mean recruits don't see the opportunity for playing time or other valid reasons. That is why I asked 72 for an answer. It may very well be that they were absent on the recruiting trail the last six months which would be unfortunate but I would love to hear 72s reasons behind his strong statement. Is it his opinion or is there a factual basis behind his strong statement.

I understand your point but does not it matter to a software company if their sales team has 14 meetings with prospects with no sales or just stayed home. The latter at least costs the company less money. Something smells rotten here.

Yea. Remember when multiple "projections" had Rysheed at Temple? Those were neat.
