Realistic Expectation for First Four Games
Keita may be key but a different perspective, how will opposing guards handle STJ pressure in close games? Shamorie taking over a game when our offense implodes is different than opposing guard trying to avoid "not another turnover " as steals and bad shots accumulate. Keep it close and start a run and watch what happens. Markus Howard trying to play hero ball late in the game as Marquette offense gets tight is what I think our pressure can do.
I keep hearing that we have no big men. But which big men can guard our guards? It works both ways.
All true. They know. But there is something to be said for doing it in at least a few of the first 12 to be sharp. We shall see. Hope you’re right and they whack the Hall.
It's all a mind set, just do, that simple.
If they can't then they'll suck, that's up to them.

This is a really interesting start of season. While they may got off to a fast start, I'm just feeling a 1-3 hole where each game didn't feel like a horrible loss but in the aggregate people will be pissed. Hope I'm wrong.

You are.

Good luck to the team that has to play us after the first loss. They are going to get a team that plays 40 minutes of beast mode. This team can't lose with that type of effort.

I hope you're right but your confidence indicates a poor sense of history where disappointment reigns over anticipated success.

I was the biggest downer last year. I was livid that we went into the season with such little guard depth. I love this team.
If they were coming off a winning season with an NCAA tournament I'd predict them to make the Sweet 16 or better.

I think our starting 5 are superior to everyone.....we will only lose if we beat ourselves...need extreme ball pressure on defense and baseline play on offense. I believe, hope and pray that our monsters from queens will surprise.....Go St. JOHNS!

We begin the 'real' season, walking on eggshells, hopeful. maybe even optimistic off a weak 12 - 0 OOC schedule, but nervous we'll come up short on the road against the Hall, G*Town, 'Nova, and maybe against tough Marquette at home.
We'll know soon enough whether our fears of our optimism proves more realistic and if the team can rebound from adversity and win consistently in the BEC.
I think we'll be 3 - 1 after the first 4--with the first loss against G*Town away, and achieve an exciting come-from-behind win versus mighty 'Nova on the road.
Let's go Johnnies.

On paper, this is the year we have the best chance in a while to knock off the hall and gtown on the road. Let's see if paper translates to reality.

No matter what, after the next four games we'll still have more wins than the Knicks...or the Jets and Giants combined.

Well we went 2 and 2 in four games that were all difficult games on paper. Personally I was hoping we would play our best for these four games and while we were certainly not perfect, we were definitely good. If not for the ridiculous ref call against the Hall and a less than stellar endgame tonight against Nova we could have gone 4 and 0.

That said, at 2 and 2, we have started to establish ourselves in the conference and going forward we should be near the top of the Big East. I am looking forward to our home rematches with Seton Hall, Georgetown and Villanova. I think we can go 3 and 0 in these rematches and it would not be a shock to see us in a battle for the top spot in the conference by the end of the regular season.

I noted being happy with 2-2 in a tough four game opening stretch, but was still disappointed tonight squandering the lead down the stretch. I have confidence we take three of next four & a 5 and 3 record would be fine in this tough, competitive league.

“You play ball against yourself, your opponent is your potential.” Bobby Knight quote I love, I have it hanging in the foyer of my business suite. Georgetown game was a toss up, they played well and Ewing had them ready to exploit our size, our weakness. In both our losses, we beat ourselves. So IMO, 4-0 was there for the taking, 3-1 would have been fine if the loss was Gtown, 2-2 a disappointment.

Yea 2-2 before big east play started would not have been a disappointment in my eyes. But the way we lost is what makes it a disappointment. However if we take care of business we are still on track to make the tourney. I just want us to get a good seed so I’m hoping we really start rolling here

Good post. The only reason splitting the four games of the most difficult stretch of the season is because this team is very talented. If the team plays with a little bit conservatively and smart in certain spots, they can beat anyone.
