Rasheem Dunn Waiver Denied (APPEAL WON)
For those in the know. What does Dunn bring to the table? I want to set my expectations accordingly
It’s always safe to set the expectations low and hope he’s a nice surprise.

You don’t wanna be “Orlando Sanchez’d” do you? ;)

Fantastic news.

And a richly deserved tip of the hat to Mike Cragg and his team in the athletic department/on campus who handled this like true professionals.

Once again, I'm impressed as the new operating approach of our athletic department. We appear to have strong experienced leadership and it's showing up in results. Good job by all.

(And, not to be lost in this, congrats to Rasheem. Seems like a good kid who has been doing all the right things on and off court. Just the kind of addition we want for the program.)

Congratulations to Rasheem Dunn, CMA, Mike Cragg and the entire SJU compliance team. These are results you get when you have an AD and Coach that are consummate professionals!

Not to derail this too much but I was just thinking that Champagnie is the first kid in decades that we heard rumors over the summer how much he had developed etc, that actually is way better than advertised. His poise is superb but for a Freshman just really exceptional. That is what really stands out to me.

Absolutely. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I seems we’ve had terrible luck when we see hype surrounding our players preseason. I use Orlando Sanchez as the prime example because of some comment from a scout that he could start for the Utah Jazz. I thought we had an NBA level talent. I was young and naive.

Champagnie has been good and what’s even better is he seems to have already grasped Mike A’s system and his role only 3 games into his career

What you think you run this place or something??

Great for us, better for him. He put his trust in St. John’s and it looks like they pulled through.

I’m excited for Steere but think Dunn is more important at this point. We need a guy to help break down defenses and Dunn’s strength on O is exactly that. Improved depth and defense are just additional pluses he brings to the table.

Ted Gustus, Rasheem Dunn's uncle who was closely involved in the process: "What they saw was honesty and integrity of what we were doing. Here's a kid that sat out a year. Are we going to damage this kid for something he didn't have any control over?" #sjubb

Just a refresher but you can see the type of guard we are getting. He’s big, strong, tenacious and plays at both ends. Pit bull type kid who really gets to the basket well.

All about this guy & glad this BS is all behind him;

If he plays within the team he will be a major and much needed asset. Until proven otherwise, I still like Rutherford at the point even if he isn't the power scorer that Dunn is and I'm not sure who gives us more as an outside threat. I don't think either offers that. Dunn off the bench as a spark makes more sense to me but we'll see.
depth
The depth is huge. Last night I thought our guys mostly all looked a step behind. I was thinking maybe they had a couple of brutal practices but everything looked discombobulated.

Agree that Dunn was the more important piece. I'm just glad we didn't lose any games because of this.

I'm actually kind of glad that Steere won't play until December. Of course, I would have taken him right now, but I kind of like that we're going to have a key player that the other Big East teams won't be able to scout too much, heading into conference play. Hopefully, the teams we play early in conference, will be in for a big surprise (literally).

Nah Jack, I'll take all of his frustrations out on vermont.
1st half he'll dish to others 4pnts 5dimes, & 2 stls
2nd half: he's got to go off...hit 3 3-pointers 13pnts, 2 dimes, 2 more stls
17pnts, 7dimes, 4 stls.

Now if j get that right, I'm playing the mega mill that night.

I'm not expecting Gary Payton. He's a nice player who deserves not to be screwed by an organization that supposedly looks out for the kids.

Lol I'm not either, i just hope that he isnt happy, I want him to play piss that he still had to go through that and goes off on vermont.

I expect Rasheem’s early impact will be on defensive end with his physicality & intensity. Give it time on offense, feeing that will evolve, but unfair to expect big numbers out of gate.

Eventually if he gives SJU about 10 points a game, while he adds depth & more defensive intensity, I will be quite happy.

Fab news! Congrats Rasheem!!!
Wasn't sure what a "Legislative Relief Waiver" is, so I looked it up.
It's basically the NCAA's safety valve in sitch's like this: a cover-your-ass free pass on an abysmal original decision.
Let's play the games!
