Rankings

Mullin's first ranking at sju, congrats coach.
Ponds was here 2 years ago on that horrible team, well two years later he's leading a ranked team.
It must feel so damn sweet.
Getting ranked again is a huge deal for the program, IMO. It automatically elevates us to a higher level of recognition and respect. Just look at the score ticker on ESPN.com - they only show the 25 ranked teams. We are in the club again.

I can't imagine this isn't a huge boost for the players. And yes it will be hard to maintain, but happy for them and coaching staff.
Bigger boost for the players is playing a thrilling game on national TV vs. a historical rival where the entire NY audience had to be excited. That should result in some ticket sales if we sustain winning.

Isola won the showdown on ATH today and his closing remarks were about St Johns being ranked and the program coming back under Mullin. I guess the buzz is truly palpable.

I DVRed the show thanks for ruining the ending for me. ;) :)

Will us bein ranked help or hinder our game vs. Villanova?

Mullin seems to be well liked by the ESPN folks.

My opinion?
We won't be denied, 4-0.

Special season on the way. In my eyes we're 15-0.
The best SJU team since 98-99.

Isola is also the NY voice on that show, but yeah, they like stars on that network. Bunch of groupies, especially Wilbon. ;)

Gotta admit it makes me happy & proud to see them in the rankings again for the first time in quite awhile! And I think we will keep getting better as the year goes on I love watching this team play , guess I picked the right year to become a season ticket holder!!

Phase 1 is getting ranked. Phase 2 is sustaining the ranking. BE is tough, but hopefully as the season progresses our ranking will even be better.

It's kind of jarring looking at the rankings this season and seeing no Big East teams in the top 10- or even top 20. Wonder what this will do to our (or any other Big East team's) ability to climb up the rankings to any significant extent. I think we are the only BE team that still has a remaining game against a top-rated out of conference team (Duke).

Buddy of mine who works at CTK said that at Sunday's triple header he saw an incredible amount of SJU gear being worn by spectators. Far more than he has ever seen in his years of working there. Another buddy, a Queens bar hopper, told me that the buzz about SJU at many of the Middle Village/Maspeth area watering holes(IE O'Neil's, Bridie's, Woodhaven house, John's, etc) is off the charts. Guys who've never even mentioned college hoops before have become barstool SJU fans in a huge way.

Big East in new @AP_Top25:

15: Marquette
22: Villanova
RV (34): St. John’s
RV (40): Seton Hall
