Rankings

Just to add more information, the 25th ranked team in the AP Top 25 last week had 182 points. So we'd likely need to surpass that number.
Sure, technically the rankings do not matter at all. Technically, none of it matters. Being ranked will add more exposure to a team that is gaining exposure daily. Exposure creates interest, interest sells tickets, sold tickets adds revenue. And this is not a Division III program with a Division III operating budget. Not to mention they have earned it on the court. This doesn't seem like a nothingburger to me.

Rank these guys!
Agreed. I'm pretty sure most people browse scores by defaulting to Top 25 on ESPN, then clicking on their conference.

Now everyone will know about our Nova and DePaul games this week.

Time to start thinking big (just like Cragg)!

20. Johnnies
22. Marquette
34. Villanova
38. Seton Hall
48. Creighton

I had an old friend text me he watched the Georgetown game and I was surprised because he is a relatively casual basketball fan. Another friend that I know from Binghamton and follows Syracuse texted me today to tell me how great he thinks Ponds is. I think people are paying attention because of our record and the uptick in coverage. A national ranking will get us more attention and definitely bigger crowds. I agree with Beast that it helps to stay there but maybe we will.

Marquette 21st, St. John's 24th, Villanova 26th, Seton Hall with 14 points (tied for 32nd).

Whenever I work out I wear my SJU cap and I can tell you that unlike the past I am now constantly getting praises from random people about SJU which only means to me that people are actually paying attention.

I actually predicted the Big East yesterday over at Holy Land, though in a follow up I did change SJU from #24 to #22 after the ballots started coming in.

#21 Marquette
#24 St. John's

#26 Villanova

We should be a bit higher. Seems to me the AP voters who publicize their rankings included us a lot more often than those who didn't. In other words, a lot of the AP isn't paying attention.

Still, awesome to finally be ranked!

Last time we were ranked was I believe the 14-15 season which was the Harrison/Pointer/Greene senior season, and this team is way more talented than that squad. Let's keep it going!
I actually heard people chatting about the Johnnies at an Equinox in lower Manhattan yesterday. The boys are picking up some steam.
Our pastor mentioned saturdays game at mass on Sunday. But he graduated from SJU undergrad.

He said something like, if you follow St. John's basketball, you must be really happy, and if you go to Georgetown, well, better luck next time. The kid in front of me with his family at mass was definitely a Gtown student, because his whole family looked at him and started laughing.

Good news is we were much closer to finishing 22nd than 25th. All good stuff. If we win our next 2 we will be close to top 15 next week. Also a loss to Nova on the road shouldn't drop us much.
