Rankings

This moron Graham Couch has Buffalo #9, Marquette #17 and SH #25 but no rank for SJU.

Marquette blew out Bufalo. We blew out Marquette. And he recognizes SH is a top 25 team--and we beat them on the road. How does any of that flow logically?

We're talking about a 14-1 team whose only "loss" was in the last second on the road to a team he recognizes as top 25...and due to one of the worst calls in years.

That's funny...that was my family!!! St Anne's in GC...meant to reply to Beast's post

He's a contrarian in general. Gets publicity by refusing to put Duke on his ballot, since they haven't played a road game yet.

What kind of statement is that making? Only, that he knows how to get publicity for himself.

I’m not saying we are better than Nevada buttt if it’s resume that matters ours is better. And if it’s not resume and rather the eye test/talent level, then we should have been ranked for a while now and absolutely higher than 24.

Nice to be ranked, but staying there and moving up is a tough chore considering the composition of BE where every team is capable of knocking off another team. Imo, most competitive league in country top to bottom. Having a balanced schedule playing everyone twice is great for fans, but also difficult imo.

It would be useful if they put SOS information beside each team, because clearly that is a key determinant of this.
In any event, we just need to take care of business as we have been and we'll be fine.

Yep, he's just looking for attention. It's stupid to base a poll off of just one metric (away games).

That said, at least he explains himself and put SJU at #26 (bad ranking, but he at least knew we played). The 15 others who didn't rank us clearly aren't paying attention. How do they have AP credentials? Isn't their job to cover college basketball?

It's no coincidence that all but one of the writers who publicize their votes all voted for us (one exception being Graham at #26).

I don't too caught up in this. Listen, if you look hard you will see the bias. No way any of these voters have seen all these teams no less the majority of these teams. I bet most only have a passing interest. Sad but true.
However, as influential as these polls (yes they matter) their are plenty of spots in the Tournament and if you win your games you will get in. Once Tournament starts you don't have to worry about polls. Just win your games.

It’s sweet to break through into being ranked in the Top 25 and witness the building excitement among the throngs of the ‘casual’ fan base in the NY Metro, realizing hey, ‘how about those Johnnies?!?’
We keep this going and it’ll get sweeter, because there’s nothing like being a winner in NYC.
rankings don't really matter but I think they are always good publicity for the team and fanbase.
It’s good for the recruits that have interest in the program as well

As far as getting attention, the Knicks are not just bad, but historically bad. And the Nets are the Seton Hall of the NBA, nobody cares about them. There is am attention void right now for the NYC basketball fan that SJU can exploit.

Getting ranked again is a huge deal for the program, IMO. It automatically elevates us to a higher level of recognition and respect. Just look at the score ticker on ESPN.com - they only show the 25 ranked teams. We are in the club again.

I can't imagine this isn't a huge boost for the players. And yes it will be hard to maintain, but happy for them and coaching staff.

Top 25 gives the kids respect for how they are playing but more importantly after the last 3 years potentially gives the staff respect in the eyes of potential recruiting. Also gets us more attention nationally. My phone was blowing up during the game on Saturday from non redmen.com friends all watching the game. Just look at the DePaul game ticket prices going higher now and being sold out. We still have to take care of business but it’s something as a fan it’s nice to enjoy today

Yes and my trash talk is SO rusty. We need a support group here. panther can be our leader with his credentials, he's perfect.

I don't know where we finish, But IF (big if, very early) SJU makes the Tourney some of the big boys better hope we finish higher up the seeding. We have exactly the type of team and athletes that should scare people to death. Ah, fun to dream again!
Let's hope the team is more focused on the task at hand than I am. Let's beat Nova first.

Congrats to the team and to all the long suffering fans. Let's all take a moment to rejoice in this. This is a long time coming and we got here with THE guy, Chris Mullin. St. John's is back!

Now we are marked. Two wins here and we can be top 15 next Monday. A loss and we could be out. Let's take care of business and give Nova some payback.
