Providence

Not that it really means anything but if you look at the last layup basket by Providence there is hardly a touch, yet a foul was called, Ok he touched him call a foul. But when Greene went to make a layup at the end of the game he was banged and no foul was called. The commentator said - oh you dont call a foul at this point. Well my question is why the heck not? If you call a foul with 20 seconds why not 2 seconds?

Originally i thought the same thing. But when I saw the replay(a few times) on Cotton's shot it showed that Greene ran towards Cotton and in to him. When Greene drove it looked like the defender stayed parallel to Greene and that Greene initiated the contact. At least that's how it looked to me.

Just got home. We snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. 6th grade move to coverup on the inbounds like there were two seconds left and get tied up. Season now officially over.

You know what? As I read all the posts I'm getting mad as hell. He shouldn't get away with the most asinine substitution - Hooper. A wasted effort by our kids, ruined by a lousy, lousy, lousy coach. The more I think about this stupid move makes me want to write something I'll regret. When I think about Jordan's lack of playing time I really fear his leaving next year. Come on guys boo this waste of a coach starting Saturday, let's here fire Lavin also.

Nail on head. Hooper should have not been in there at that juncture and the prize recruit was riding the pine. Such a shame.

Trying to figure out the logic, which was get foul shooters in the game in an obvious foul situation. Get GG off the floor, since he is a bad foul shooter. But Hooper??? he forgot one thing - Jordan can handle the ball under pressure, and Hooper can't

@StJohnsBBall
Obekpa limited to 12 mins recovering from food poisoning. #sjubb
@StJohnsBBall
Per Lavin, Sampson had leg-cramp late. Finished w/ 16 pts on 7-of-14 FGs, plus 8 rebs. Played 46 mins 45 hours after return from Chi. #sjubb

omg this twitter guy. he reminds of...

Another disgrace, they made a big introduction for Hatten and he stands up and basks in the cheers. Only problem was he was in the 2nd level. They couldnt scrounge up a courtside seat, or even a lower level seat, for the guy? Amateur hour.

Coach said in the post-game it was because Sampson had leg cramps late in the game. But like you said, there are other options to sub in quickly.

Wow. This is just about as embarrassing as the post-Jarvis years. Our "coach" should start worrying about his job. He is an absolutely horrible coach. There isn't one aspect of the game he coaches well.

I agree but as many has said, he isn`t going anywhere. He needs to go.
If he`s back next year and he recruits for 2015 then you know he`ll coach his recruits. So in 15 and 16 everyone will says the 2015 recruits are young, but they`ll be juniors in 2017 so if they don`t win in 2017 then he might be gone before the 2018 season.
So another 4 season of this?????? Just hope he`s gone after this year.

As for the kids, this is the first game that I really feel bad for them, they really battled their hearts out. Looking at Harrison with the PC guy shooting FTs at the end. It really looked like Harrison was fighting to hold back the tears.
But it`s a bitch to win a game without a coach. My heart really goes out to them.

They thought Lavin was gonna be a good coach and put them in a better position to win these type of games and seeing Sampson and obekpa and everyone else, are these kids really better then they were last year?

Under a good coach they`d have improved somewhat from last year.

You said it yourself. Lavin isn't going anywhere.

I think he quits after his contract is up next season. We were the better team today. The fouls really hurt us.

Just back from game...disappointed again...

I know the players blew many opportunities to take control of this game...but, Lavin earned this loss...leaving Jordan, our very best defensive player and the only guy routinely able to get to the hoop on the bench for most of the 2nd half is unconscionable...Realize Jordan had a poor 1st half but you don't sit him for 2nd half...In fact, Greene was all set to be taken out and then he got fed a pass on a break and scored..Lavin must have thought that was a great play and pulled Jordan back...I don't care that Greene scored 15 points...he missed every big shot and is the root cause for many defensive breakdowns...How Jordan was not on Cotton on the biggest possession in 2OT is ridiculous...Knew we were done when Greene had ball with 9 seconds...avoids contact on the drive...ugh

And what was Hooper thinking on the inbounds play? Maybe they won't notice me if I just stand here...

He was sitting down with Rutledge for a while...he was only sitting in the 2nd level because he was there with a handful of people

The only thing Hooper should be doing if he's in the game at that point is inbounding the ball.

OK, I'm sure everything that needed to be said about this game has been said. But I just got home and need to vent!

Why oh why was Hooper in there at the end? And Jordan was sitting on the bench? Everybody in CA knew that they would swarm all over us and we needed ball handlers out there, not 3 point shooters!

Why did Sanchez stop going to the basket, where he was having some success, and started shooting from the outside? Huh?

It is so frustrating seeing every other team run plays and we continue to come down the court and play street ball.

We didn't fall apart at the end, like we normally do, but came alive and with the lead, I actually thought we were going to pull this off. But poor defense, lousy passes and poor shot selection ended up doing us in.

I don't think I'll be at the Dartmouth game. If we win, it is expected and not a quality win at all. If we lose, it's one more nail in the coffin for this season.

That is all. Now I'm going to try to get some sleep.

God's Gift has earned his playing time, played aggressive tonight with strong rebounding. Has to be first big man in before Obepka.
While everyone waited for Harrison to take the last shot in the first overtime I would have surprised them with a Sampson cut to the middle. How can Lavin put Hooper in overtime? He let a Friar get a rebound without boxing out. And that terrible out of bounds possession. That was a perfect spot for Jordan to be in.
Greene should not have played Cotton at halfcourt, too much space to drive to the basket on the last play.

Max attempts at rebounding are comical...he looks so stiff..wonder if his knees bend...

Greene is TERRIBLE on defense -- whether on ball or off ball...he has value as a change of pace but has no business guarding the opposition's top player..he is too soft...avoids contact on D and O

Maybe there is more to the story than just him deciding not to play Jordan. Maybe Jordan had a bad attitude or something? Perhaps he was using this as a teaching lesson. Even if Lavin didn't want to play Jordan, I find it hard to believe that Keady or any of the other coaches aren't telling him to put Jordan in, unless Lavin is just that bullheaded.

I sit across from the bench, so I was watching when Sanchez fouled out. The first thing he should have done, was tell whoever was going in to get ready. Instead he went out to halfcourt to talk with the 4 remaining players for what seemed like more than a minute. All during this I was watching Obekpa and GG, the obvious choices. Neither budged and by their body language, neither knew who was going in. Then at the last second without speaking to GG about his role, just tell GG to go in the game.

No doubt this game was almost in the bag. All we had to do was protect the ball and make a couple of foul shots

I was thinking the same thing...Sanchez was among the group that he was talking to...Oblivious

Just showed the final Cotton drive on the news...amazing how badly Greene was beat...HORRIBLE defensive player

Did anyone else see how Harrison left the court and didnt go to the handshake line.... that does not bode well for this team. At the end of this season we could be in for a long long long off season.

I saw that, but he did come right back out and did join the team for the post game handshake.

Non-issue. You are 100% correct. He came out pretty quickly too.

This could be my favorite quote of all time from any coach following a loss.

On tonight’s performance:

“Numbers wise, you can’t ask for anything better than 54-28 in the paint. We held them to 36.9 percent, which is our third-straight game of really strong defense. The team showed a lot of heart but just came up short.”

Can't ask for anything better? You lost the game!
