Providence (MSG), Wed., Jan. 10, 6:30p, FS-1

If we win this, it'd be our best Big East start since 2000-01 (started 5-1). Truly remarkable how this program killed momentum nearly every January this century. Detrimental to the school as that meant most MSG games weren't yet played (negatively affected ticket sales).

Agree this will be a tough game but we'll be solid favorites, and unlike in prior years I'm actually optimistic about winning.
It's all due to Pitino

In Phoenix I get comments every time I wear my St. Johns gear. I'm nearly 60 and every guy who says something is older than me. Oh well.
That’s why they call it Sun City . I’m surprised so many former NYERS are in Arizona ? Thought it would be mostly escapees from California ?
Florida is 1/2 the distance and while it’s hot , nothing can top Phoenix for heat .

Agree 100%.

I think the key to get the "attendance bump" will be the return of the "Subway Alumni" (NYC college basketball fans who did not go to SJU). I have a season ticket and know some long time "Subway Alumni" season ticket holders who dropped their seats the last few years. Winning will draw those fans back.
A good theory about NYC College fans but, not necessarily SJU Alums . Does anyone take Subways anymore ?

Do they still have Cops on every train ?

But its a dry heat. We have a sun city in south Carolina also.

I know I live a few miles from it . I’m near May River HS . And , while we are Tropical, we have a little taste of Seasons here . Lows in the 30’s are rare in the daytime as you may know .
And , we start Spring around Valentines Day .

My daughter and son-in-law live in Brooklyn and both take subway daily into Manhattan (my daughter to MSG stop as she works for MSG Sports) to work. Both say subways are fine for the most part.

I live in rose hill, we may have to meet up for a beer and a taco sometime. (Bluffton may have some oh the best Mexican east of the Mississippi)

My daughter takes the subway to work every day as well, says it's fine. I ain't buying it for second. I know plenty of cops in the city. It's a cesspool both above and below ground, the likes of which we've never seen. Not even in the 70s and 80s.

Providence is always a solid program but not what I consider a big draw this is a game that should have been played on campus.

It’s hit or miss on the subways. I had some good luck with my son over the holidays but then saw a woman wet herself and intermittently scream incoherently on the A train from Rockaway to Manhattan.

The busses are much better in my experience and the ferries are absolutely amazing. I will go out of my way to take the ferry whenever I can even though it adds time.

It’s a nice little trip to take two ferries and the Roosevelt Island Tram to get to/from from Rockaway and Central Park for those with kids or grandkids looking to plan a day out.
Glad you and your son were lucky, unlike those poor girls visiting NY, who were stabbed in Grand Central station.

When Brian Watkins and Kendra Webdale, to name 2, were killed many years ago, there was universal outrage in NYC, it didn't matter what side of the political isle you were on. Now when crimes like that occur, and they occur far too frequently, no one even seems to bat an eyelash.

Few know and love NYC the way I do, but it's no longer the NYC that I lived in for 60+ years.

Last home game vs Providence I attended was a weekend game during the Mullin era at MSG. I think we were coming off a good win because the vibes were high, and then we just had an awful game. I remember not being able to score at all. Shamorie was bad. Just a terrible L

Edit: Found the game and yep, coming off a win @Marq we came out and lost this one

Ponds actually wasn't "bad" he was just the only one who could score so his FG% was down
