Providence Game

Obviously there are a number of more important concerns regarding Lav, but it's important to maintain a professional appearance. Especially when you're the leader of a program, guiding young men, and recruiting others. Frankly, Lav looks like a slob out there.

Steve,
-Thesuits are way too big. Find a new tailor
-NEVER bottom the bottom button of a blazer or suit jacket. Often times, this is the only button buttoned.
-Wear a tie, please. The school's color is red. The red power tie is the quintessential look for a leader. Take advantage of this.
-Wear proper dress shoes. When you do, make sure they are shined.

You're the only coach in America that lives in Manhattan. Take advantage of the clothing resources at your disposal.

I thought we were done with this discussion...

Really impressive win. If we beat Creighton, I may just eat some crow and forgive Lavin for messing with the rotations for so long. Although I'm not mentally there yet.
Are you at least ready to forgive him for what he wears during games ? :)

LOL! Yes. I guess I’m old school, but he’s racked up Marquette and Providence victories since my wardrobe rant, so I’m just going to chalk that little tangent up to emotional exhaustion.

Actually, people are going to role their eyes, but I have a problem with what he wears too. I think it's an insult to SJU.
When Lavin was at UCLA he would never dare not wear a tie to games, he had too much respect for coach Wooden and the program. Plus he knew his job was never safe there, he had to always keep the bosses happy.
Now, he's at SJU and he thinks he's in a safe seat and the standards are relaxed. That's a load of crap.

Most HS basketball players have to wear a tie on game days, why the hell can't he?

I'd expect it from some of the old farts like me but I took you to be a youngster? Who wears ties anymore? Most lawyers, bankers and teachers/profs don't' wear ties anymore but some jock head coach should? Heck my dad only wears a tie half the time and he's getting photographed. Events he used to go to all formal businessy he now shows up in golf shirts and Stony Brook garb. ;) I mean it's been 15 years since I wore a tie to work each day, now it's about 5 days per year. I don't think I know anyone who still wears to a tie to their daily jobs and many are execs/upper management. Who else is in that boat? Now if the shoes weren't a statement I'd get behind you on that but he's given up on the sneakers except on special days, right?

Unfortunately I wear a tie usually 4 days a week. But if I'm meeting clients out casually I don't wear one most of the time depending on who I'm meeting if it's after the market close.

I'm assuming you work in finance Maher? In some shape or form. If you were giving an interview on Bloomberg or CNBC would you wear a tie?

There's a reason Lebron changes into a tie after every game. Gus Johnson and Raf are wearing a tie. Hell, some of our fans even wear ties to games. (I always see this guy with a red tie and yankee hat, some of you must know him)

I just think it's a respect and professionalism thing. And if he were at UCLA coach wouldn't be so cavalier about it. That's all.
yeah I work in finance. Depends on if it was a friday or depends really on the type of meeting or event for me. My picture was in Ny Magazine a few weeks ago and for that I wore a tie :)

MJ, rumor is at your office XMas party two years ago, all you wore was a tie.

I can't confirm or deny that :)

Interesting thread by friar fans, people starting to take notice of our improved play

I almost fell out my chair laughing at this :silly:

But then at the end when the players were being separated after the Pointer/Desrosiers stuff, Harrison pointed at Cotton and talked $hit to him, to which Cotton threw his hands up and said "me? What did I do?" before throwing his hands down in exasperation. Harrison is a thug. Plain and simple. Talented. But a thug. He was talking $hit to Batts in the game in Queens and Batts just laughed at him while he kept nailing his free throws.

Hahah I just looked at the play again. Nothing even close to that happened. Harrison is the one player pushing dom away from the situation.

Harrison may be the most misjudged player in the country.

He and Cotton know each other a little bit and were kidding around during the game. Haters want to hate.

Apologies to tux1 ... I initially responded to his post-game comment that Pointer was the biggest ass we've ever had, which I thought was over the top. However, shortly thereafter I edited my post, taking exception to another poster's (not tux1's) comment equating Pointer with Georgetown's Michael Graham. The way my edited post read, it suggested that tux1 was making this comparison -- something he rightfully took exception to (very civilly, I might add). It's was only a few minutes ago, when I reread my post, that I "got" it. (I suppose I can blame the confusion on that extra celebratory glass of wine I'd had.) Anyway, just want to set the record straight.

You know, I saw a very good interview the other day with Justin Tuck.. They asked him about Richard Sherman, and he did a great job at articulating that the intensity that guys bring onto the field is very different from how they behave outside the lines. It kind of reminded me that as fans, all we often see is the intensity or emotion that flows form it, of guys on the court.. Without knowing them one tiny bit, we then characterize how they must be off the court.

Tuck was speaking about Richard Sherman, but he also could just as well been speaking about Michael Graham, or anyone else whose behavior on the court is nothing like their behavior off of it.

With us, case in point would be D'Angelo Harrison. Even the restrained Harrison amps himself up by screaming, sometimes to himself, or to the opposing team in general. Funny, though, he's never come close to taking a poke at an opponent, and whenever he is interviewed off the court, comes off as intelligent, soft spoken, and reserved. Also appears to be one of the most well0liked guys on the team. Even then, I can't say I know hi, nor can many of us.

A note after re watching the game:

1) Balamou was back behind the bench with the other red shirts, what is up with that that?

Noticed that as well...Great team player...cheering very hard

Interesting comment from one of the posters on the Friars board about the importance of SJU to the Big East:

As we've all said during the initial C7 love-in, the Big East needs a strong St. John's University. Looks like we have that, they were everything I feared they'd be last night.

I hope it was strategically placed. I didn't know NY Magazine did those kind of spreads. Congragulations!!

I hope it was not related to any Bernie Madoff with my money issue!
BTW, I am hearing from my friends in the LGBT community that Joe3 had a spread in The Advocate and was wearing only a medium tee shirt!

That's right. In fact Cotton walked up to Harrison when he was taking his last foul shots and said something to him to make him smile.
