The thing that I can't stand about Lavin is his quotes.
I think that he thinks us fans are stupid. Telling us oh we're headed in the right direction, and rebounding is overrated, or his dumb quotes like that one after the Creighton game. Then he says he's under no pressure to win, that tells me he doesn't care, or why even say that?
Then after every loss watching him shaking hands with the opposing coach, smiling, joking, laughing. I really hate happy losers
Say what you want about coach k, and boeheim, and cooley. They maybe sore losers but atleast you know they care and hate to lose.
To me it's not about losing. It's about his post game quotes and reaction with the opposing coach that piss me off.

Question: Did you watch the Providence or Marquette wins? Lavin was stalking the sidelines fist pumping, shouting, exhorting, and leaping in the air - all seemed so uncharacteristic. If you want to believe he doesn't care about winning or losing be my guest.

I don't know Beast. I do know how I'd react to Wednesday loss and going 2-5 in the B.E. and losing 6 of 8. I'd be to concerned with how to stop the bleeding, rather then yapping it up with Greg and laughing.
I'd shake hands, talk for a few seconds and keep going, not be all buddy buddy.
I think the coach has the team playing with intensity, physically, and with a lot of emotion. With a loss of scoring (Jordan injured, and Harrison still dealing with his injuries) what more could he do. Who on the bench could spell any of the men on the floor. Lavin can't put the ball in the hoop!

Frank please tell me, who does that fall on?

Believe me, I'd react like you would, but I'm not sure that means much of anything.
I remember reading in Bill Bradley's most excellent book, "The virtues of the game" how as a rookie he would go ballistic after a loss or game that he played particularly poorly in. His roommate was Dave DeBusschere, who was older and wiser. He pulled him aside and told him, hey if you react like this after every loss you aren't going to last very long in this league. You just have to move on and let it go.
Now when I was in pharmacy school, I'd walk out of a horribly difficult exam, and instead of lamenting would basically think to myself the time to worry and do something about it was before the exam, not after. Different people react differently.
I don't equate a smile and handshake with not caring. I think it can be perceived as simply good sportsmanship, not that everyone likes that.

I don't think that Thomas could have spelled "Any men on the floor" without making some mistakes, but chalk it up to his Westchester CC education.

Had Thomas qualified I don't think we would be having any of these discussions or cared if he spelled it "any mans on da flo". B)

Forget who starts. He's a rebounder & we suck in that regard. Thomas would have added a physical presence down low too. Big blow!LYou're right 72. Many had Thomas penciled in as a starter. All he'd be doing is taking Sir Dom's minutes, who has arguably been our most consistent player

Just having another serviceable big body in the rotation would have given Lavin a lot more options and configurations against good teams

Pros are different. Unless you are an all time team, you're conceding at least 20 losses right at the start of the season, so it probably is not healthy to vent over every little one.
That being said, I do think the "handshake" thing is being blown out of proportion here.

We are all different. As a coach and player of basketball and baseball I took losses very hard. In no way would I express joy to the winning coach. But then again I'm not a phony.
