PREDICTING OUR LAST 8 GAMES……..

3pt % in BE play. We have other issues. Hard to win with this though.

Ledlum 22% on 2.3 attempts
Dingle 23% on 4.1 attempts
Luis 24% on 1.8 attempts
Conway 25% on .4 attempts
Nahiem 26% on 2.3 attempts

Wilcher 33% on .9 attempts
Dunlap 38% on 2.9 attempts
Taylor 39% on 1.4 attempts
Jenkins 40% on 5.6 attempts

Marquette game was the best offensive performance of the season. See here: https://barttorvik.com/team.php?team=St.+John's&year=2024 I think moving the ball more, taking more 3s, hitting the offensive boards (especially zuby); less forcing it to soriano; O looked ok.

The D was just bad. Marquette had a 68% effective FG percentage; BC and michigan games were the only other times our opponent even reached 60%. The concerning part is the D has been getting worse over the past several outings. I'm not sure if anyone has splits on defensive performance in man versus zone, but I'd be interested in seeing that.

Got to play some catch with Soriano. He does not have to attempt a tough double-teamed shot because he has the ball thrown in to him. Pass it back out, get the defenders moving.

Interesting stats about the offensive performance against Marquette.

But thinking back on the game and the defensive effort, I really think you have to give credit to Kolek. He had 27 points on 17 fg attempts, and 13 assists. Our three point defense broke down in the second half primarily due to Kolek hitting contested threes, and Kolek driving and kicking out so effectively.

Overall, I was very frustrated Saturday about the result but, if we play the same game against everyone left on the schedule, I think we are solidly a 11 seed. At least that’s what I’m telling myself.

How can this be? I've heard ad nauseum on here that an off balance contested Dingle, or just about anybody else, three is a better option than a wide open Jenkins look. Oh, now I remember. He has psychologically, perhaps subconsciously, damaged/brain washed his teammates into being unable to shoot by taking too many shots and not sharing the ball enough ( 4th in conference in assists and assist/to ratio ) earlier this season.

I think anyone who thinks SJU can win their last five is basing that confidence more on the weakness of the schedule rather than belief in SJU.
They did win four out of five at the beginnig of the big east schedule which was a lot tougher than the last five so let’s see what happens and if they somehow accomplish this perhaps we should drop the removal of De Paul talk.
