Kenpom fuses St.John's a 22% chance or defeating Villanova on Wednesday predicting a final score of 81 to 72.

Before anyone gets dispirited understand that the brain trust at Kenpom had Marquette defeating St. John's yesterday.

I believe it will be a competitive game.  We will see whether the Villanova machine ("machine" said as a compliment) can be rushed.

Not sure too many people get "dispirited" by
Kenpom stuff :)

Will be interesting to see Villanova play in Carnesecca even without fans. Feel like that hasn't happened in a bit.

Not expecting a win here but excited to see how they stack up and play with nothing to lose. Gotta cut down on the mistakes to have a chance. Yesterday after the early 2nd half collapse, we responded with that run to get our lead back but then followed it up with 5 or 6 awful possesions that were all turnovers or poor possessions. The only thing that saved us was that Marquette was playing just as sloppy in that 5 minute window. We all know Villanova won't provide that luxury. Bad possessions are bound to happen but one stretch of prolonged poor play is enough to let the game get away from you against Jay Wright.

Like others have said though, playing with house money here. The pressure is on them. If the Johnnies can pull off the big upset this team will automatically go from off the bubble to being on the right side of it overnight. They'll also start to get some national press. Would be a big program win.

A factor: We are playing better ball with each passing game and each passing week - so we. shall see.
Would be nice to have Greg Williams back in the fold.

Crazy idea, playing in CA without fans, we are very much used to; they are not used to playing there at all, fans or no fans. Advantage St. John's

Plus, glad not to have a 60/40 nova crowd at the Garden like sometimes.

Hopefully the team gets home from Milwaukee in time for the game--don't know if they got out tonight but if they didn't, won't be able to fly back until Wednesday.

They're here already. Isiah Moore just went live 40 minutes ago and they were walking in the Snow on campus.

Let's hope Nova's bus gets stuck in a couple of snow banks and the players have to push it out and they show up 5 minutes before tip off  completely exhausted and we kick their butts. No aplogies offered. /media/kunena/emoticons/smile.png

Would bring back memories during a snowstorm up in Syracuse. The team had to leave the bus and walk to the campus.

I feel confident about this game. No Pauli.... or Theo John down low. Wondering whether Posh or Dunn will guard Gillespie. He does alot of dribbling holding onto the ball until he can hit the open man in the corner or one cutting to the basket. Likes to take his man below the foul line, have to watch the fake outside the three point line.  Fiqure Champagnie will be on Robinson - Earl and Roberts on Samuel.  Can't leave any of the starters with open threes. Wright doesn't have a big bench, hopefully we fast break them to death. Bring it home Johnnies.

There are some super intriguing matchups in this one.

posh vs gillepsie will be very fun to watch. Great test for our freshman. Look forward to him bothering Arch Jr.

Champ vs James Robinson Earl. Another great battle between two studs.

problem is Nova also has Justin Moore who is really good. Make no mistake this Nova team could win the title this year. But my gut says this is a one possession game late. Hopefully we shock them
trust your judgment as I find you to be very objective.

We need LJSA to weigh in as his predictions have been spot on LOL

House money game to me;  compete, concentrate defensively, be aggressive but smart and see what happens. Nova is a very good, well coached team, but give it a go. For first time in a while, Nova staff has a few things to worry about with this gritty team; Julian and Posh are special and rest of first eight bring some positives. Roll out the balls! This group is a work in progress, but not intimidated.
"but not intimidated" is the key whopper LOL...great assessment

Good for the kids to experience the Nova machine.  I agree, just want to see us be competitive and maybe get in a positiion to steal one.

As a reminder......if you think Marquette got a friendly whistle, just wait.  Jay Wright and the Nova program are incredibly well respected (rightfully so) but the benefit they get is always frustrating.  In order to get a win, you have to beat them soundly or the whistle will get you.

Closing out on 3 point shooters will be key. They are dangerous from long at so many spots. We may not be able to help a ton so man D gonna be important. Villanova is a very disciplined team, hard to seem them get flustered. If anyone can do it, think it's us. Look forward to it
tbey don't seem to have a big low post presence...so no need to double...honest defense

I agree. Really important to play the game at our team's pace while maintaing the improved 3 point defense we've seen lately however. We need to push the ball and wear them down but we can't regress back to leaving shooters open all over when they beat us past half court. If our perimeter defense against Villanova reverts back to where it was a few weeks ago then this game we're all really excited for may be over by halftime. If the full court pressure is getting busted early I wonder how long Coach sticks with it.

Villanova is excellent but they don't really win by overhwelming you with their physical abilities. They're just far better than everybody else at fundamentals. Disciplined like Section says. They beat you by not making many mistakes and capitalizing on the mistakes that you make. We need to convert FT's (because they will) not leave shooters open (they rarely do) hit open 3's when we have them (they will) box out and not give teams extended possesions from offensive rebounds (they won't give us many) etc. We can have bad moments but we can't really have bad stretches. Will be a good measuring stick for this team.

Last time we went down to a game there we went to Pats and Geno's and I probably could have tried a third place :)

Rough ride home though. I was almost in food coma 40 minutes into the ride back

They are going to jump stop, two-hand catch, ball-fake, and attempt at backdooring us to death.  The pressure won't impact them like it does other teams.  But if we can make some shots early, limit turnovers (because even on their worst day they won't have that many), and hope they settle and struggle for some 3's or long 2's, it could be fun.

Specialize in long possessions...requires discipline on defense...and don't leave your feet...

Not to get too far off topic but check out Goldbelly.com. You can have the cheesesteaks delivered to you. Just need to plan ahead a bit.
