Mjdinkins — are you sure about that? There used to be a rule that teams that have sub- .500 records in-conference are not eligible (or was that NIT overall record). There very well may have been a change, but I’m just not aware of it (largely because with young twins my knowledge is now somewhat stale).
The .500 conference record thing (for both an at-large bid, and NIT) has been proposed in the past (mostly by media members), but nothing has ever really come of it.

Pretty sure that used to be an NIT requirement.
Agreed, tonight is HUGE. If we lose tonight, would have to win 2 of the next 3 (with 2 games being on the road). I’m fairly confident that a team with a losing conference record isn’t even eligible for an at-large bid.
Last year 5 teams from a few different conferences made the NCAA Tournament at 8-10. We absolutely could make it at 8-10... I just don't want it to come to that.

Whatever, but I do not want us to limp into the Dance, get a lousy seed, and lose the first game.
That’d be a sour taste for a year and sure the hell wouldn’t appeal to recruits.

Enough with the hyperbole regarding what we need to do to make the Tournament. This site becomes nauseating to read every time we lose.

We need to finish 2-2 to make the Tournament, and it doesn't matter which two we win. This shouldn't even be debated, if you disagree with me then you're also disagreeing with every bracketologist out there. Right now we are an 8 seed on Bracket Matrix (at 7-7) and 115/115 people have us in. Going 2-2 with a first round BET loss won't knock us out. Why would we drop 17 spots (drop out) if we remain at .500 and lose one BET game? Unless the Committee just doesn't like us, and their bracket ends up being completely different from everyone else's...

1-3 with a BET win probably also gets us in, but that isn't as certain and isn't worth discussing yet as 2-2 should be attainable. Let's get the win tomorrow so we only need to get one more during our final 3 BE games.
You realize that if we finish 1-3, that with the PC, we'd finish 1-4.
You said with "a" in the B.E. tourny, then lose? Well in that case we'd finish losing 5 of our last 7.
If then the only reason we're in the ncaa Tourny is because of a crap bubble, then no just making it isn't good enough. If we back in, then win one in the tourny, or bust.
If we finish atleast 2-2, then making the NCAA tournament is a success.

I just hate backing in.
I'm not saying I'd be happy with that finish (8-10 and 1-1 in the BET), but I do think it'd get us in. The Committee looks at the entire resume and doesn't more heavily weigh how a team finishes when determining at large bids. They sometimes drop teams down a seed line or two depending on how they finish, but it very rarely affects whether a team gets an at large (two separate decisions).

My position on this is basically the same as Andrew's: if we don't make it, it'd be because we absolutely don't deserve to make it. The only way we don't make it is if we have a truly awful finish.

I never said I'd be happy with that kind of a finish (I even said so in my post you quoted), all I'm doing is correcting incorrect statements.

If finishing 2-5 isn't a horrible finish, then I don't know what to say.

That'd be a mediocre finish but not horrible. BTW, you realize that'd also be a 4-5 finish, right? It's easy to manipulate stats to fit a narrative. The Villanova and Butler games still happened, and both were great wins.

A win tonight is important for BET tie breaking purposes. We would effectively have a 2 game lead on SH for the 3rd seed thanks to our 3-1 record against Nova and Marquette.
Just confirmed Mike Stephens will be sitting in Section 114 tonight.
Oh thanks for bringing that mother blanker up, anyone know who's reffing this game?
If he's is there, then the league better be investigated, because after what happened during the first shu game, if that POS is reffing tonights game, that's a crime.

‘I never said you said’, you’d be happy with a lousy finish. Lol.
The bottom line is I dread limping into the Dance,
Let’s pray and hope for a big win tonight.
All of us realize this is a huge game.
It would also seem the heavens re-align, we avenge that stolen first matchup, are in sole possession of 3rd Place, and better positioned for the BET and the NCAAs.
Let’s go St. John’s.

Ok, I just thought that replying "whatever" was dismissive of my post when I was just correcting comments about 8-10 disqualifying teams from the Dance. People said the same thing about 9-9 as recently as a week ago. People said we wouldn't get in at 10-8, etc.

We are in agreement on the rest, going 8-10 and losing first round of the NCAA Tournament would be disappointing.

How many of those came from a major conference that has only 10 teams, though?
maybe I'll hide the odor with a couple squirts of my 1992 Drakkar Noir I used back then. I'll be irresistible to the 45+ year old guidettes :)
Wow, blast from the past. My dad worked in the cosmetics industry when I was a teen, and we had factory samples of that stuff in the house all the time. All my Elmont guido friends would come over and raid the stash.
