Tacko has 8 points, 3 FGs and fouled out in 18 minutes
Didn't he get his shot blocked by Justin Simon at one point in that game?
Yep

How do you counteract big teams like Duke? You pass a lot, use your speed, and have active hands. I remember the UCF game last year and Tacko Fall had a field day with us. Well, we can't let Zion do that to us if we have a real shot of winning. We probably can't stop him once he gets the ball at the rim, but we can try shutting down the passing lanes so he can't receive it easily. Hands need to be very active. If we interrupt the passing lanes effectively and get lots of TO's because of it, Duke may get discouraged and try getting into a shooting match with us. That's how we can win this game. Shoot 45-50% from 3, shut down passing lanes to ZW, and hold Duke to poor shooting outside.
I agree Mullin should tell the team to shoot 50% from three. Hopefully Simon listens to him.
Sorry Mike but sometimes you make it easy......
Those are keys for us to beat Duke. Not saying it will happen. It will take everyone running on all cylinders. And my bad with the Tacko Fall thing, I thought I remembered him scoring a lot more than that on us. Anyway, that's not the point. My point is that speed, passing, and cutting off passing lanes leading to TO's are the antidote to size. Duke is a very young team...wildly talented, but inexperienced. Maybe we get in their heads.

It will be very interesting watching Jones guard Ponds. He is very good defensively.

100% Agree.

We are winning this game, I don't really have any doubts in my mind.

I'm going to go with the same mentality as last year. I don't see any way that we possibly win this game. We have no favorable matchups. What is worse is last year they had two NBA bigs that we could not match against at all. This year they are stronger at the guard both offensively and defensively and they have home cooking. No way we win this game.

Sensible

This game can get out of hand quickly if we allow them to score inside. Once Williamson works himself into the pivot pretty much unstoppable and more then likely will get fouled.
Going to be interesting on who guards who for the Johnnies. Ponds on Jones, Simon on Barrett, Clark on Williamson, Heron on Reddish and Figueroa on Bolden. Can't stand around, have to box out.
Same aggressive in your face defense, prevent the pass into Williamson.
Got to keep the Cameron Crazies out of it. Not going to be easy.
Hopefully we will be competitive.

Much too much caffeine.

It's probably a LOT more than caffeine.;)

Tacko has 8 points, 3 FGs and fouled out in 18 minutes
yeah but they were ticky tacko fouls :)

T. Fall had 8 points and 6 rebounds before fouling out in 18 minutes.

Justin Simon (migraine) said he'll be fine for Saturday
A question about Simon, why doesn't he play to his strengths? They are leaving him open on the arc for a reason, why not when he catches that steps in for a higher percentage shot, or penetrate and dish? He doesn't have to shoot it because he's open. Would you say he has the green light to shoot it if open?
He annoyed me against Gtown game and has the worst looking jumper of all time. Last year though he did make them. I noticed the difference seems to be last year he recognized he was wide open and he took his time. This year seems to be rushing the shot even though he is even wider open. Tough to say with his form but that seems to be the biggest difference. Probably confidence thing. He is one of our best 5 players and is going to play so he will have to take that shot, but needs to pick his spots a little better.
There's a reason why he didn't play much at Arizona.
Dick Vitale will be on the broadcast Saturday, so with Duke involved, you know it will be a fair, unbiased announcing job.;) ... Actually, it will be whatever the opposite of that is. Hawk Harrelson, when he did the White Sox games, had more objectivity.

Luvved the Hawk. Very funny and entertaining with that ‘country’ baseball twang.

Well, if I were a White Sox fan, I probably would have loved him. But I'm not, so I didn't.

Would luv for the game to go down to the buzzer.
Duke wins on a phantom foul with a second left.
The Board lights up.
St, John’s then beats Marquette, Providence, Butler, Nova...to take the sting out.

Duke will win by 14 after coach K puts in his subs with Duke up 24 with 5 minutes left.
Even though Duke could win by 30 coach K has a soft spot for Mully and Cragg.

Shame if Duke -St John’s Series ends but, maybe it won’t with Cragg here .. candidates for future seasons to play OOC could be , ND with home and Home , Kansas , Gonzaga with home and home , UCLA , Indiana , NC... as for this Saturday’s game vs Duke , was there any chance we would last year after the 0-11 January ? Hardly . But, this Dukie team might be better than last year .. Syracuse beat them earlier this year at Cameron so , there is always a chance . Ponds would need another 30-40 point game . It’s probably more important for post season to Win at Marquette than win at Duke . Let’s Go Redmen .
