Potential Grad Transfers

I don't understand the vitriol regarding Matt on this board? He has been tasked with basically doing the work of two people. That is not his fault. No, he probably isn't involved in the X's and O's as much as St. Jean or Richmond but that's not the job he was brought here to do anyway. I think he has done a good job considering the circumstances he was dealt. St. Jean is young guy who could probably relate well to some of these recruits and is really the one who be out there pounding the pavement with Matt to get some more players in here. It's unfair to ask Matt to do this all by himself. Also, if Mullin took the job for 2 million per and expected not to do any recruiting at all then he shouldn't have taken the job. He knows what it entails. I would not lay this all on Matt.
I don't think many people here have ever knocked Matt's effort on the recruiting trail. I think there are some aspects of his character that people have a problem with.
I have no clue about Matt’s ‘character’ or complaints about it. But I do recall a few guys griping about Matt’s pre-occupation with transfers and not sufficient emphasis on HS recruits.
That seems unfair, in that we had to resort to the ‘transfer’ route the first two years and did recruit a few HS guys, who subsequently left—went elsewhere, or dropped away—including Ellison, Freudenberg, Sima, Sampson, Cheick Diallo, and Brown.
Matt’s busting his butt.
We should have more guys busting it in the recruiting hunt.

St. Jean gets killed constantly for having the audacity to not be a senior citizen and most days Matt has ten posts praising him for following a kid on twitter. You either have the coaches mixed up or the boards.
Given what ‘came down’ upon us this season and throw-in Tariq’s imminent transfer, we are frustrated to the heights of ‘frustration’—irked beyond measure about the s-l-o-w pace of recruiting 2 quality bigs.
Human nature—being what it is—we gnash and rant at the ‘messenger’.
In this case, poor Matt—our primary recruiter.
He’s criticized for not being able to be in 3-4 places and states at once.
That’s the way it is in Johnny-Nation these days.
Let’s hope for better times.
If Matt is the primary recruiter, who is the secondary?
Ron Linfonte :)

Per Goodman
Xavier commit Evan Boudreaux, who averaged 17.5 points and 9.5 boards last season, told ESPN he will re-open his recruitment. Grad transfer with two years remaining.

He's probably 20, but looks like a dad from a Nickelodeon show.

Is he SJU eligible?

Noticed he is from Illinois so would have been going back towards home with Xavier. Wonder if we have any shot at landing him? Certainly worth a shot.

Or does he follow Mack, although FBI investigation may concern him

I'm thinking if he's smart enough for Dartmouth, does he go the Cal/Stanford/UVa route, or maybe Northwestern if he want to be home? Also just read Purdue may want in. Or does he stay smaller, and go William and Mary or that type school? The guy will clearly have a lot of options.
I just want a big man... (I heard that snickering)
We're all open-minded here. Don't be embarrassed to admit that what you really want is two big men.

Hey you never know. We did get a transfer from Harvard a couple of years ago.

I know it didn’t work out as planned but hey, you never know.
Strange that Yakwe hasn't announced he's transferring yet. Wonder what he's waiting for.
I am wondering the same thing. Maybe he sees himself actually getting on the court for meaningful minutes next year with Owens leaving.

Opportunity is there for the taking he just needs to toughen up and accept a role and work hard to perfect it. He needs to be a rebounder for us.

Yeah.....strange. We usually run our tall kids out of here much quicker. :p

Sounds like VCU with this kid is in same situation as we are-with these bigs leaving their respective programs now instead of needing a grad or JUCO transfer big we both ideally need two. Out of HS was 205 lbs. but was able to add plenty of muscle and looks like exactly what we need with his rebounding and D and I think he was a secondary big to the kid Tillman they had so his numbers are pretty darn good.
